Justthejedi
Hi, can anyone assist me with this query pls? I replaced my head unit and sub recently, left the original speakers and amp in and now when i I turn up the volume the speakers distort and I'm not turning it up very much at all. I have played around with the levels and even turned the bass to as low as it can go and it's either the sub distorting or the speakers under not much volume either. Does anyone know what is the best frequency to have the sub set up? Any advise would be appreciated as It's driving me potty.
un1eash
Are you using the pre outs or high level speaker outputs?
Justthejedi
I don't know, I didn't fit the head unit or sub.
BulletMagnet
What headunit is it? Was it installed by a shop? Have you visually checked if the speaker cones have torn?
Justthejedi
I had pioneer AVH-X2600BT double din unit fitted and tremor X sub at the same time. I will check the speakers to see if they have torn as I now have a worse system than before but I won't be taking it back to where I had it fitted as I don't have confidence in them. pay peanuts and you get monkeys......lesson learn't! BulletMagnet
Going from my own experience, as I have a Pioneer too, usually the pioneers require in-line boosters to up the volume level to work with the OEM speakers and amp. I too first changed to HU and retained the OEM gear, needed boosters and ground insulation boxes. So perhaps they did fit in-line boosters and have just turned the Gain levels up to the max, which could cause the distortion?
Justthejedi
How do I check the gain levels, do you mean the settings on the head unit? I have played around with all of them and the speakers (especially the rears) distort at low volume and at the lowest bass level. Checked them and they aren't torn either. I think I'll have to invest in some better speakers, any recommendations?
BulletMagnet
I meant the gain levels on the in-line boosters. The most obvious place for them is in the centra console behind the heater controls. To visually check the rear speakers you need to remove most of the interior behind the seats, unless I am mistaken Edited April 5, 2014 by BulletMagnet
