That surprised me

Took the Z in yesterday to have new discs and pads all round and couple of belts done

Now, talking to the guy there (they specialise in sports cars, Audi, porche, Mitsubishi) and was telling the guy I liked the 3.2 boxster, his reply was, I may be a bit disappointed after driving 350Z, he recons the Z has a better chassis and handles/corners better

Guess I'll have to test drive one to compare ;)

Mind you, he did say the Audi R8 rocks, B)

Sorry not buying that, I am sure the boxster would handle better, mid engine rwd and is renowned as a great handling car

Drop top though so it would never be a strong as say the cayman. My mate has a coxster but not the S, I cant comment on the handling as the guy buys budget tyres  really should unfriend him for that reason alone

Despite the Boxster being rear wheel drive and mid engined, still would never buy one... too much or a risk looking like a hairdresser/bum bandit! Don't like Porsche in general really, but the Boxster is right there at the bottom of the list. Would rather save up and get something on a different level.

Drop top yes but not a chop top, it was designed as a drop top, the handling and feedback was much better on my 911 than the 370 but I had lowered the suspension and had the alignment set up by a porsche specialist Cog

Still think its pub talk tbh

My mate had a boxster - my honest opinion was it was slow and crap. It was one of the first ones so maybe just abused.

Oh and it sh*t an engine twice before 80K miles.

what engine ? there are lots of inherent problems with porsche, ims, rms etc etc, but they do handle well (not as well as a vxr though :stir: )

I am not a Porsche fan but it is a capable car from what I have heard. It hasn't aged well but the most recent edition does look stunning. The video you are referring to Will is one made in Japan where they raced them all, clearly driver skills have a lot to play as much as the cars but the Boxster in that race was the non S version so a 2.5 flat 6 and cannot compare to a Zed with a whole extra litre to play with, the S which is a 3.2 clearly puts it much more on par with the Zed.

And yes, a roadster can handle, as someone mentioned if its built as a roadster then it will handle well, the best handling car on the road the Lotus Elise is a roadster...

Matey boy in the garage remember is basing his entire conclusion on comparability on a sample of one, anyone else here when buying cars look at just one review or corroborate it with 20 others?

Still, you can pick up a boxster 3.2S for a little over 1 grand these days 2nd hand, so you could buy one, try it out for a bit, then sell it and probably not loose much on it.

Personally they do nothing for me, common as muck around my way, however my mate raves about them and really couldnt understand why i would buy a zed when I could get a boxster for less money.

"Matey boy" actually worked at Extreme Performance on Evo's for 10 years plus and many different rally cars as well so I presume he knows his stuff

Might be dependent on the time of the year, but I remember watching Wheeler Dealers last year and they bought a boxster 3.2S for 1000quid which basically just needed a service. I remember thinking no way were they that cheap and so I looked online and sure enough there quite a few to choose from for £1500 or less, runners with MOT etc. However looking again quickly just now, you seem to be right, they are £3k->£4k, so maybe its because summers approaching, suns out and thats pushed the prices up slightly.

I am not denying his experience, but from a point of view of gauging whether a car does this or does that you would be foolish to rely on the evidence of one person to form an opinion, regardless of their experience. You could give them more weight within a group of people commenting but I would not say categorically that a Porsche Boxster S is inferior to a Zed because he says so.
