Jimmy
So I've been reading up on other 350z forums about stock resonator delete as some people recommend it as a cheap exhaust mod. I would like to know if anyone on this forum have done this mod? What are the pros and cons for removing the stock exhaust resonator? The videos below are two of the few examples I've found: Edited March 15, 2014 by Jimmy
Scott TMN
Hi mate, I was looking into this myself a little bit, and I know someone on here did do this and ran it for a while with positive comments. I have removed mine but only worth my gtr backbox, not the standard box, but I can say it did make a big difference (in a good way. Really opened up the backbox, and only added minimal drone if any.) From what Iv seen, from videos like the ones youv posted, I think it makes it a bit louder, add some rasp (some say it's good, some disagree) and as a con, mayybe add a little bit of drone. But I like it! For the cost of the mod (£10 tops for tube, hours labour max at a garage?) I say give it a go, although I'm sure many will say just get a proper system. But you Havnt much to lose by giving it a go.

After listening to many exhaust systems my heart is pretty much settled on 2 different exhausts: I want either the Cobra non resonated cat back exhaust with Berks HFC or the Nismo cat back exhaust! To buy either of these I need atleast around a £1,000 So......... While I'm saving up for one of the 2 exhaust systems I'm thinking I might as well enjoy a bit of non resonated sound from my stock exhaust, cheap and cheerful . Will I lose any power if I take the resonator off? Edited March 15, 2014 by Jimmy
pjf1985
I really want to do this! Are there any cons at all?
Scott TMN
Im not an expert but i dont see how there would be, probably just a bit of minor drone on the motorway at most?
cs2000
That second video in the first post sounds as though its Decatted, when he comes off the throttle is ..what's the word...almost reverse revs, I cant describe it but it reminds me of some chav in their corsa, the removal of the resonator just makes the sound worse imo. The two videos further down sound much much better. Edited March 23, 2014 by cs2000
Jimmy
I really want to do this! Are there any cons at all? As far as I know there are no cons. I've done it recently and regret not doing it earlier Im not an expert but i dont see how there would be, probably just a bit of minor drone on the motorway at most? I too feared of the drone before removing the resonator, but after removing it I'm honestly surprised how there is no drone even at high speeds! Jimmy
If you're after noise when you put your foot down and quiet like stock when cruising then I would definitely recommend it! A cost efficient mod you can't really go wrong with

Jimmy
Awesome, so I would just need to source a tube/pipe and get that fitted? Is it MOT friendly? It's supposed to be MOT friendly as far as I'm aware buddy. If you remove the cats' only then it's an issue with MOT. Are you going to an exhaust specialist? Just to give you an idea, I went to an exhaust specialist and they charge me £50 including their own pipe. I don't think it should be anymore tbh....and don't forget to take your original resonator back with you just incase you want to put it back to stock Edited March 23, 2014 by Jimmy
