ostego
Hi One of the big selling points i had buying my zed was the seller said it had had a new exedy clutch and flywheel fitted at 36k miles (is now at 40k). The biting point is quite high though... but from what I've read this is just how zeds are! A couple of people have also commented that my gear shifting could do with improvement.... and this is all because of how high the clutch is. I figure there is no way of seeing if it has the new clutch and flywheel in it without a lot of dis-assembly... so i read some techniques for testing the clutch's health. I tried pulling off in 3rd gear.... not putting a lot of power in the pedal, and basically easing it up as i would if i were in 1st... and it didn't like it, but did move, just was jolting and then i couldn't follow through with it and just let off the clutch. I then tried another technique.... took it up to about 30-35 mph in 2nd gear, then switched to 5th gear, as i brought up the clutch the needle hung at 5,000 odd revs for a split second (i guess as it was engaging) then immediately shot straight down to 1,500. From what I've read that is meant to be a good sign. Does that all sound like I have a healthy clutch? Are there any other tests i can do that aren't too damaging that can give me a solid idea of whether this car does indeed have a recently fitted clutch to it? May just be a case of manually lowering the biting point, like i've seen in a guid on the forum (think thats one for the zed shed though as I know I'd manage to **** it up if i tried!) WhackyWill
Ask him for a receipt for it, or where it was fitted and check with the garage..!

Check with the mechanic who fitted it, ask the seller for his number. Edited March 8, 2014 by WhackyWill

Ok, will ask and see but he gave me all the documents he had for it upon sale, so doubt it is there, and the mechanic who fitted it for him is a friend of his so doubt hed say he didnt do it if he actually didnt. From what i did though, does it sound like the clutch is fine? And do you know of any other way to check its health?

Spent £1200 on it just this week including a new head unit as a treat.... then go to a tyre specialist to get seized dust caps removed.... and ends up both my rear tyres are below the legal limit.... so thats already £280-£460 depending on quality of the tyres when the mot comes up next month!!
