jumping350
Calling all computer nerds!! Ive got 3 19 inch monitors setup on my computer im fully aware a normal motherboard can only cope with two and those splitter things dont work just mirror the third display. Im trying to get full screen view across all 3 screens at once. questions are 1. what graphics cards do i need? cheapish and able to handle this (there are so many i dont know what to look for!) 2.can i do it another way? ive seen these usb things that you plug your monitor into the computer with but not sure it will allow me to go full screen (before i spend any more money!) I thought I better ask someone who may know Anyone running this at home? Thanks for any help p.s Zed coming back out next week hopefully, after 6 months away Edited February 27, 2014 by jumping350
Grundy
What are you planning this for? Gaming, photo editing/graphics, media, to be cool? btw it's not a random nosy question, it's to help decide what you need. Grundy
The more monitors you have = the more cool points you get! Do you know the specs of your machine? Mainly do you have/know what your current graphics card is? You basically need a graphics card with 3 or more outlets in (DVI/HDMI) My 670 GTX has enough for tripple display, but that's stupid money for just a work pc
Grundy
http://www.ebuyer.com/623499-gigabyte-gtx-750-ti-dual-dvi-hdmi-pci-e-graphics-card-gv-n75toc-2gi Depends how much you want to spend. That should work. 2 DVI's 2 HDMI's
jumping350
i do know what it is but will have to wait till get home (think its nvidia gt9400) but basically I can run 2 monitors off it 1 from vga 1 from dvi ive not see any graphics cards with more than 2 outlets on them. i got a vga splitter box and have all 3 monitors up if the monitors are from left to right (1,2,3) 1 & 2 (2 being primary) are the same and i can span across to 3 from 2. So im guessing my card is no good.

Grundy
that looks good would this do the same??? http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_2430wt_1399 Not sure about that one, due to the mini display port (haven't really dealt with much of them. Ideally you would like one with 2gb on board memory if possible (they tend to be a bit dearer) but that's for your simulation side of things. BulletMagnet
Really need a budget for these kind of things. No point in suggesting something say an nVidia GTX Titan that costs like £800 when your budget is only half. On my rig I have a GTX 770 watercooled, which came in at £370. So I would guess a air cooled one would be around £300. Plays current games quite well (maxed out all GFX settings on Titanfall without getting any issues) Hope this helps a bit

jumping350
Thanks for info guys , stu i may just pass on that setup lol crazy how pricey you can get with these things. If grundys link to card will work i might give that a go, my monitor only has vga and dvi outlet so i would have to get dvi to hdmi adapter right? Then will my windows 7 pick all 3 monitors up so i don't have to nothing else

jumping350
Right still messing round with this, cant use any decent graphics cards as there all pci express and mines not, cant add second card as only one pci slot, cant go via display port as there isn't one, can i add a third monitor via external gpu via usb, i know it will work but can i go full screen across 3 monitors? other than that its burning the computer i spent all Christmas building and starting again.....doh
:RedZed:
I thought grundys first suggestion was a replacement card (rather than adding a second card) so only having a single PCI express slot shouldn't be a problem. If I'm honest, I didn't know that with a card that has 3 or 4 ports could all be used at the same time though.

Older cards wouldn't of been able to support multiple monitors, but this day and age they can
jumping350
That's what i mean grundys suggestion uses a pci express slot which i don't have,so it wont fit i don't know any pci (older cards that allow this) everyone just talks about new on market on net.i think my only alternative is a usb external video card (box with usb wire) it acts as an external graphics cars, you will be able to use all 3 screens independently but i don't if that means i can go full screen across all 3 ?? Ive googled but cant seem to find an answer
jumping350
One of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/StarTech-com-USB-to-DVI-Adapter-External-USB-Video-Graphics-Card-External-vi-/130933487709?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item1e7c3e785d
Grundy
See the problem with external is it will more than likely just mirror each screen, so you will get 3 monitors working, just the same image on all. If you can post up the spec of your machine I can find something suitable. (Need motherboard details.)
jumping350
Its an oldie asus a8r mvp motherboard with nvidia gt9400
jumping350
Or a card with two outputs and a display port should do it, ive got a box of tricks for display port but no display port lol
