Burnin' Rubber! (Tyre Fooked!) Help please!

Heavens, what the hell have I done, lol

Today is my day off work, so after driving a van limited to 54MPH all week I decided to take the car for quite a spirited little run and have probably clocked about 20 miles. Not exactly the run of a lifetime but still...

Anyway, all day I've been smelling something burning, and it seems to be from the front right tyre which A) Stinks and B) Has severe rubbing and outer wear showing!

So, what have I done? A search has come up with baffling results as I'm quite a thicky lol

What needs replacing, when, how much etc etc... advice required and appreciated peeps!

Thank you for your help in advance!

If it was smoking that would suggest serious alignment issues, like the lower arm has detached completely or something. Id get it somewhere with a ramp ASAP and get them to have a look, Ive had buggered alignment but never as bad as smoking tyres before :scare:

Could well be an alignment issue as before, but if that's the case it is severe! When I had mine re-aligned I was told it was bad, but never had anything like you're experiencing! as Ebized says, pics would help!

Hey guys, can't post a pic sadly as don't know how to via the Tapatalk app. Anyone know how???

Basically the outer edge of the tyre has white bits like severe rubbing, it also stank when I got the car back home, and it also has cracking. The rear tyres are absolutely fine.

Just take a picture on phone and then in tapalk you can upload whilst trying to post in the thread. Come on Colin its 2014 :p

I will keep up when I see something that works consistently, but given the issues we see with tapatalk posts on here and we try to make sense of some them I don't want to add to the other mods workload :lol:

You sure it's rubber that you can smell?

I mean that looks like the tracking needs doing or you just came in from a few laps of the track but that doesn't look like it's melting, maybe clutch or a sticky brake making the smell?

If you have given it some beans then the clutch is letting you know ;)

Certainly a long life for a clutch, IF IT IS ORIGINAL, but do the usual check low speed/high gear and see if the engine starts to rev more than speed increasing (if that makes sense)

Ebized, know just what you mean. It seems to have heaps of power and torque even in 5th and 6th just cruising along. Put your foot down in 6th at 30 and she's fine. Unless my driving sucks, but I've never had a clutch go on me and I don't ride it etc.

Checked under the bonnet and that smelt fine funnily enough, the smell seemed to come from the centre area of the car.

I recently had a new Y Pipe installed but shouldn't see that being an issue???

Was the tyre hot? If so check out your tyre pressure, it should be 35 psi when cold. One of the problems with todays modern ultra low profile tyres is that the walls are so stiff that lack of pressure isn't as obvious as it once used to be.
