H5
Hi all, I'm looking to go across and get some goodies from over the Channel, and am thinking of spending a night there while doing it. I know nothing about the 1-2 hours drive area from Calais (apart from Belgium!) and need some ideas about where is nice to spend a night for good food, drink and accommodation? steve_b
My house is 40 mins from Calais. What do you like doing....Le Touquet is best bet as tourist thing and is where the Parisians go for summer break, even know as Paris-Plage http://www.letouquet.com/index_en.aspx There s 2-3 tracks that are within 2 hours if you are into that. Just somewhere that has good food and surroundings really. I know it's not very specific but I just want something relaxing that I can get some good food. Thanks for the link. mugwump
+1 for le touquet, some parts are like Cannes (big hotels, casinos etc but can be a bit snooty, maybe my bermuda shorts and kiss me-quik-hat were not appropriate apparel) whilst the market area offers a bit more cafe/village lifestyle. good for golf, horse riding, tennis and windsurfing. It can be a bit quiet off season (the bigger places seem to shut up shop in the autumn and dont wake up till easter) but this time of year should be bustling

H5
Calais and Boloigne are complete @*!# holes I know, that's why I wondered what was around there. I'm thinking of going this weekend, just for the Saturday night. Le Touquet looks to be the favourite. Will see if I can find a hotel.... H5
Need help guys, Le Touquet is fully booked, everywhere. Any other suggestions for somewhere that's nice enough to take the lady for one night?
MickJ
I'm not sure from your post whether Belgium was a non-starter or not but I often go up to Adinkerke for fags and then onto De Panne for a few hours and a bite to eat and that seems a nice friendly little place, might be worth a look. Will keep a look out for you if you are over the Dover area as i'm down that way from Friday night!

steve_b
Sorry was up in scotland yesterday and today, else could have given you the keys to my house. Not a hotel but you would have the place to yourselves. Have used http://www.lacourderemi.com/ ((the room with 2 baths facing each other is great) Those are good locations for the tracks I visit but not much else there. North of france is manly industrialised. Have also use http://www.gites-de-france.com/gites/fr/gites_ruraux but mainly for longer stays.
