Help with purchase on 313

I'm going to view a 313 this weekend. Is it possible for anybody local in the Hertfordshire area to come view it with me? It's located in Puckeridge which is about a 4 hour drive from home. I've asked all the typical questions that you would generally ask (also used the buyers guide on here). Any further help would be much appreciated.

What sort of money would I be looking at to have the bolster repaired? Pretty picky when it comes to wear on leather seats. We have agreed on 10,200 and a full tank of fuel. He wants 200 deposit via bank transfer which I am pretty wary about. Seems a genuine seller but you just don't know

I certainly would not give a private seller a deposit - you have not got a leg to stand on if they do a runner.

The bolster can't be repaired as such but it can be fed and dyed  It is a weak spot on the seats and I doubt you'd find any zed without visible wear to the drivers' bolster :)

Refuse the deposit.

If it sells before you arrive, then it's just not meant to be.

If it's still there, then you can pay the full price on arrival if you're happy with it.

I basically said - "I don't feel comfortable handing over that amount of money to someone who I've never met/car I've never seen. I am 100% serious about buying your car and I will arrive with the full amount in cash. If you would like to continue talking to other people about your car that is fine. If you still have your car on Saturday then let me know and I will travel on Sunday to pick it up."

Seems pretty fair to me. Like you said if It's not meant to be then its not meant to be.

That's fair enough then if its a common problem.

Thanks for the help/replys :)

Not comfortable handing over £200 in advance ,but happy to tell you i am coming with 10.2K in cash notes is also slightly unwise ,at best limits any potential negotiation as seller will hold out if he thinks you really want it or at worst him and a couple of buddies help you part with the cash and no car .I would have company if carrying 10.2k personally but thats maybe just me ?

Yeah I did think that after I wrote it to be honest. It's one of them really as the original plan was to just use my online banking with my iPad while I was there. I've not heard anything back after I sent that message anyway so that's probably the end of it.

Any seller usually wants a token deposit, even if just £50. Less chance of you messing them around. Had my fair share of tyre kickers so would also want a 'small' deposit to show intent to buy. Always view car at sellers house and make sure address on V5 is the same - should be pretty safe that way.

Leather bolsters can be repaired. Just find a decent company that can do it, some can work miracles. You need a specialist leather refurb company. Mine going in soon because also want my 'baby' perfect.

You would only leave a deposit having viewed and agreed a deal. The op has agreed a deal but not viewed yet. In this instance it would not be recommended to leave a deposit as there may be conflict with the seller should a fault be apparent which had not been disclosed during the phone conversation.

Oh yeah I understand but there's a bit of a difference between 50 and 200 quid. To him it shows I'm not going to mess him about. Although on the other side if the coin he could take my money and never speak to me again.

This has been the first time I've tried to purchase a car which is that far away. I usually go to view the car, agree a deal then leave a deposit and pick it up another day. In this case I can't do that as its 230 miles from where I live.

Lovely looking Zed, I picked mine up and did an instant bank transfer from his house.

He was happy with that, money in his account while me made me a cup of coffee, he was a member.

on here. though.

Be careful with faster payments, I recently had a company pay me in this way, saw the payment in my account etc. Only to discover 2 days later the payment had disappeared. Checked with the bank and it seams the payment is only secure if its still in your account at end of trading on the day. It is possible to be rescinded before this point. I am sure its a rare event but it can happen.
