sl114
Wow this is an old thread! About half a year old too ahh yes but jay is still having trouble with his nuts but he doesnt realise he's changed cars since i think its his nuts not the cars he is having problems with! Toon Chris
Just had this same problem. I looked at everything you shoudl look at when buying a car - except the locking wheel nuts I only twigged when at the tyre fitters. They said they wouldn't touch it (don't want to damage the alloys, sir) and take it to the dealership. After fighting through traffic, the dealer says they have to be drilled off and there is no such thing as 'spare' or 'master' keys in the building and they can't find the part number for replacing them anyway. Called Phil at ESR who thinks he can get me a replacement key for about £35, next day. Fingers crossed I await his call back... speak to a AA man. He will be able to get it off without having to drill it True, but I still want to keep them and so need a new 'key'. If Phil doesn`t come through then I guess I`ll have to try my breakdown people, although they aren`t the AA so it may be awkward (again). Darn, it always happens when you are in a hurry. N/S/R tyre is at 1.6mm.
Chesterfield
If the tools that your breakdown people want to use are not the same as the AA one (the dynomec one) then they are likely to either try hammering on a smaller socket, or using the reverse threaded sockets. DONT let them near your wheels with these - They WILL make a mess of your alloy. You could try calling these guys: http://www.dynomec.co.uk/ and asking whether they know of a garage in your area that they may have sold one too. I know they had a deal with the AA, but the RAC went down the reverse threaded socket option instead. The easiest option is obviously a replacement key, and I would pursue that as much as possible first - but if you reach a stage where you are absolutley certain that you cant get hold of one, and you must resort to using some sort of hardware to get the nuts off - I wouldnt touch anything else other than this tool above. It cost me an 80 mile round trip and £20 to have mine done in about 2 minutes by one of the chaps that invented this tool.
Toon Chris
Thanks a lot for the advice, I have spoken to Dynomec and although there are some local garages in the area with the tool I am swinging past their place on the way to Hull tomorrow just to be sure I`ve managed to find some Nissan locking nuts to replace mine so am all set. Dynomec are helpful people aren't they. It's thrown a real spanner on the works as I`ve wasted hours and hours today getting this sorted out and it always happens when you are really busy, eh? Big thanks also to Phil from East Shore Racing for his good advice and his time. Oh, and i`ve also discovered that no-one in the Newcastle area has a set of master keys for a 350z - they may say they have but the 350z uses a thin walled version and not the standard nissan one. Pah!
3FIDDYZ
Have a good look under the poly whatsit in the boot, thats where mine was... Stealer didnt give it to me in my hand and there was no jack in the car either... They asked me if I had taken it elsewhere, I said yes, so they told me they must have taken it!! Yeh tuners like to use your jack when they have 3 ramps to use!!!! If you cant get it off with the dynomec get a socket about a mm or 2 smaller and bash it on to the locking nut and then untighten.. Not sure how good for the car it is but it gets it off!
Toon Chris
Have a good look under the poly whatsit in the boot, thats where mine was... Nah, have rived the car apart but nothing there. If you cant get it off with the dynomec get a socket about a mm or 2 smaller and bash it on to the locking nut and then untighten.. Not sure how good for the car it is but it gets it off! Um... don't fancy that - dynomec has all my hopes pinned on it

Some people have even told me just a good old smack with a hammer on the locknut is enough to loosen it so you can undo it with your fingers
3FIDDYZ
Just another thought...!! Have a look in the logbook and see if there are any service receipts in there, they normaly have the number of the old owner on them and give them a call and see if they still have it!
