AliveBoy
You can only backdate tax for 14 days, after the 14th I think you're good to tax for the next month

He can tax now for either 1st feb or 1st march but if he goes for the latter it's not valid until 1st march regardless of when he pays. Fodder
It is ridiculous in this day and age you can't start on any day of the month. Does anyone know of the new system allows you to start on the day you are either due renewal or when you come of SORN'ed/buy a vehicle? evilscorp
The post office won't let you have March start if you go in on the 26th but if you go in on Feb 28th they will sell you next month's start = 12months and 1day. I know this as I have done this in the past. Anyway I found the info I was after so thanks (either paying a 10for new mot certificate and taxing on 28th Feb or online on 1st March.) evilscorp
I will need to check the previous tax disc and see what date has been stamped from the post office, I have never been told I cannot drive it on the day of purchase (1day before the start of the month) but I have now come across a post where someone was sent an automated fine under said circumstances. =/ I guess they do it so you can buy on a Sat if the office is closed on the Sunday and it falls on the 1st. They've probably never said anything because I'm assuming that there assuming you're just renewing, i.e. you've got Tax - Runs out at Midnight (28th/1st). So there won't be a point where you don't have Tax.

Sorry if I'm coming across as argumentative. I just don't like the thought of you going ahead in good faith and being bent over. It's an archaic system, hopefully the new system will be much more efficient...... Just do it online on the first and then go out and enjoy your Zed Edited February 18, 2014 by Fodder
Grundy
So has the Zed been sorn for a while? Why the sudden rush to get it back on the road? - Sorry if it was in the OP going to check now, I forgot Edit - Just read it again, I'm guessing you already have this answer by now.....Just Tax it online on the 1st? All you need is your insurance number. And you're good to go and drive Edited February 18, 2014 by grundy225
