evilscorp
Looking to tax my car at the end of the month but have misplaced my mot so have to do it online. When is the earliest time I can apply for tax for next month? They state it may take up to 5working days to arrive so do you think they would let me apply 5 days before the end of the month? (I remember when you go into a post office you can buy next month's start 2days before the 1st of that month.)
AliveBoy
Google some answers: https://www.gov.uk/a...disc-in-advance https://www.gov.uk/tax-disc Or just go online and try it, I normally do mine on the first of the month and then keep the conformation on me in case I get pulled for it. evilscorp
As stated above I don't have my mot certificate =/ and the car has been on sorn for 6months. But the conformation idea is a maybe, wouldn't hold up with a hardass traffic cop probably though.
Darren350
If you do it in a post office you will need the MOT cert so that's out of the question. Do you have the reminder? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

The second link says this: You have 14 days before you need to display the new disc if you applied before your old disc expired.
tomdotc
Got my zed taxed mid January, ended up forgetting about it and driving round with an out-of-date tax disc for 2-3 weeks.. glad I didn't get pulled over haha Aren't the majority of these now done online now? Grundy
You can just Tax it online as long as you have your Insurance number. But if you get a reminder through - Enter in the Ref Code and you're Taxed
Ekona
You will have to tax on the 1st of March, else if you do it online after being SORN'd you'll find that it might want to get you to cough up for Feb. That's what I've read, anyway. Might well be wrong, never tried it myself. Go on the site and see what happens?
evilscorp
Thanks Ekonda, that's what I thought. Guess I will just wait till a few days before and try my luck if not, hopefully Mr postman drives something supercharged.

Whenever I've completed online I've had the tax within a few days. If you're issued a producer you have enough time to wait for Pat to deliver

A producer is normally 7 days from the date you're pulled. So there's no issue there
evilscorp
Yeah I suppose you are right, just incase that was to happen how do you go about getting a replacement mot certificate? Contact the garage and ask them or do you have to deal with the diks at the dvla? (Off to search this one as it should be easyer to find out)
LRF4N
If you do it online you'll be covered instantly whether you have the disc or not. If you get stopped just tell them your waiting on it but it will show on their system anyway The whole things changing this year to scrap discs anyway
evilscorp
Cheers, just realized I can get a new mot certificate from any test center if I have my v5c and reg, only costs a tenner and I can get my tax on the Friday to screw the system outta one days free tax! You are chancing getting pulled by an ANPR flag then, especially of you're SORN'ed they may just throw the book at you as what's to say you haven't been driving around the whole time.... Not worth it for a day dude

Fodder
So it's effectively taxed 1st feb (I think that's what you're saying) OP was talking about taxing it starting 1st March and still driving it the 28th feb. Probably won't get pulled but my point is if he is they could throw the book at him all for the sake of a day....

Not worth it for a day dude I would never drive without tax, what I am saying and have done in the past, is that you can go to a post office and get a disc 1 or 2(can't remember) days before the start of a new month and be issued a tax disc that lasts 12month +1 or 2 days =screwing the system.(But you need all your documents, hence this thread)
Fodder
You can only do that if you are taxed already for that month
