My Clio 182 daily driver.

OK so I've decided to get myself a daily runabout. Give the Zed a break from the train station and supermarket car parks. (And me a break from checking for dings, dents and scrapes every time I return).

Criteria. 3 door hatch, below £2k with a little bit of poke to stop me getting bored and (fairly) economical would be nice.

So I've just picked this up. 2004 Renaultsport Clio 182 with Cup pack wheels and suspension.

I had a Ph1 172 many moons ago and loved it. So I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty and playing with this one.

OK, so it's done 113k miles, but has been enthusiast owned, cambelt changed at 75k and has a FSH. Needs a few little jobs doing such as the heater resistor pack (common issue looking the cliosport forum) and the bonnet latch removing and cleaning up (currently filled with grease and gunk so the bonnet pops up every-so-often). :scare:

There's no parcel shelf, but that's ok I'll just make a stealth shelf out of MDF and fit some phat 6x9's

This may end up being a bit of a build thread, who knows.

The engine bay looks so dull, I might need to add a splash of colour. Hmm, which colour....?

Anyway, here's some more pics. It's crying out for some clay bar action!

I've no doubt that more will follow....

Not keen on the chequered flag but the rest looks

B)

Parts are dirt cheap for these, common faults are anti roll bar bushes and broken springs, I've had a few and currently have a dci mapped to 110bhp

Is it the half leather alacantra interior ?

The bonnet catch was a recall on them, well documented if you google it, should be on cliosport form

I wasn't keen on the chequered Renaultsport stickers either and when looking at pics of the car before picking it up, I'd decided "they're coming straight off", but they're growing on me. Jury is still out, but I think I might keep 'em.

Cheers for the info. Oh yes, it's the half leather, half alcantera interior.

No way! Im off to look at a black 182 on Thursday

What do you think of it? Iv been having a browse on cliosport.net and you can get them turbo'd and tuned for £3k (I probably wont be doing it but that still cheap)

176bhp and a smidge over 1 tonne has got to be a blast

Cheers guys

I've just taken it out for its maiden voyage (I was only able to tax and insure it today due to weekend opening hours of my ins co. and the post office), it's definitely a 'fun' car. I'm not sure if its simply because I'm used to my JWT popcharger and my K1, but to me, it sounds a little 'asthmatic', like its trying to breathe through a straw. Definitely would benefit from an induction kit an a 'zorst. Bugger, I wasn't going to mess.... :bang: I'm steering clear of the Cliosport forums ATM as I was happy with my stock Zed till I stumbled upon this place. :teeth:

I can also see how a set of coilovers would transform the car. Oh god...

Already shown an Audi A4 driver up who clearly thought I was 'just' a 3 door Clio. Good times :)

Had today off work and pretty much spent the day (after the rain) on the Clio, whilst the Zed looked on at me in the same way your other half watches you as you chat flirtatiously with the blond 20 year old girl from accounts at the office party....

Anyway.

Decided to take a look at the bonnet catch and also had to replace a headlight bulb, which is a bumper off jobbie. (Pretty easy really, I was impressed).

I also gave the engine bay a quick clean (read that as wiped it over with a dirty rag) and painted the inlet manifold with some silver engine enamel just to spruce it up a bit. (Think 'unloved plenum' and you can imagine what it looked like).

Headlight bulb fitted, bonnet catch fixed and bumper back on :yahoo: it was time to give her a clean (whilst the Zed continued to look on still dirty from last weeks commute). :(

Pics are rubbish as it was getting dark, but hopefully you can get an idea of how clean and shiny the Clio is now after a wash, clay, polish and wax.

I'll take some more soon. I now understand the self satisfaction all you Kuro black Zed owners have after polishing your cars. B)

I do however know its February, it's been raining (a lot) and it won't look anything like this, this time tomorrow
