Grundy
So just rang up admiral as I new my renewal should be anytime now... Turns out they renewed my policy in January 15th without letting me know. Got my Zed in October with only 3 months left on the Policy. I had to pay off an extra £200 pound over the 3 months on top of my current £800 PY Golf insurance. Which went from £80-£150ish. My Policy is now £1400 at £120pm. When did this come into place? Is this right? As last year I got my policy renewal through the post etc. I've only payed a month so far, so I may just cut my loses and get some quotes else where. Bit annoyed as I was expecting it to be a lot cheaper than that...
KyleR
Admiral have always done this. You have to log into your account to see the renewal quote, then phone them to lower it or cancel. It's @*!# because they always double your quote. My renewal was over £900, quote from their website is £544.
370Ad
You get 14 days from renewal to cancel/amend for free and its all done via email now!
hensh65
KyleR is right, they always send through a inflated quote hoping people do exactly what you done, just let it roll on and don't question it. I would get onto confused and get a quote and see what they come in with. If its half then just phone and say you weren't aware of auto renewal but want the price you were quoted online. They will do something to stop you cencelling.
Grundy
Rang up Sky and they were unable to quote me. Did a quote for admiral online, and came up £400 cheaper So currently on the phone to them now who are apologising, going to refund last months and match the online quote. Voodoo Vix
My renewal quote from them was £100 less last year and cheaper than all comparison sites

Grundy
Grr or not... There was one small thing that bumped the price up... Last year, someone clipped my front bumper on my golf, he pulled out onto the roundabout as I was going round, was pi$$ing down with rain, and just scuffed my front bumper. He asked to settle it outside of insurance, which I was happy with. However as a backup, I notified my insurers of the incident, they understood and were fine with the issue being resolved with out, but if he didn't hold up his word they could get involved. Needless to say he paid for the damage and that was that. Turns out that now adds about £300 onto my policy ...
Ekona
At least you did the right thing. It doesn't help you, but you covered yourself and that's all you can do.

This is mad, it's a no fault, no cost claim !! when you didn't even claim but they consider you a higher risk because you were involved in an accident and statics show you are more likely to have another

I got shunted in the zed last July and informed my insurance as notification only , I sorted it myself with the womans who hit me insurance. When the renewal came through it was £50 cheaper so I'm not sure why yours went up!?
ATTAK Z
I left Admiral a couple of years ago precisely because of the auto renewal issue
rabbitstew
Im with admiral and they normally email me my renewal through before my insurance expires, and like all insurance companies you then play the "why is my renewal twice the price of any one else" game with them on the phone before they then happily half your premium. The auto renew thing is just so they can grab your cash as quick as possible. Ive had it 3 times now where ive cancelled my insurance with the insurance company only to have them still steal my money out of the account as part of an auto renewal. Dannyg
I was with admiral but they are useless, every time my renewals due they increase my previous years price by a couple hundred quid!!.. And yet they quote me cheaper on the comparison sites e.. Takes this pi$$.. They wanted 700 quid (with maximum applied discount) this year, and quoted me 390 quid on compare the market! So I went with Adrian flux for 300 quid..
Stutopia
I was auto renewed by elephant (admiral subsidiary) they called me a few times, wrote to me and emailed me to check I had reviewed my new documents. They also beat every other quote (including specialists) with a massive stick. I've been really impressed. Did you ask them how they notified you? Might be worth updating all your contact details with them. Edited February 12, 2014 by SuperStu

I found this with most companies, I have to ring to tell them I don't want to renew and then renew on line with the same co, it's on line discount which they can't offer on the phone
