WINKJ
Hi all, as of recent the key is more difficult to take out of the ignition... almost as if its 'sticky'! any ideas how to sort it? or is it as easy as a bit of WD40.. no sexual references required! I have been around here for long enough to see how this very innocent question could quickly go down the wrong path!
DoogyRev
You could put a tiny smudge of silicone grease on the key, but trouble is it will end up all over the inside of your pocket. Also have you get a spare key? try that for a bit

Sometimes it's just the tumbler inside clogged up with dirt & dust.
ianboom
Went on a locksmith course and was told never to use wd40 on a lock as it lets fluff and debris stick to the lock wafers/pins! We use graphite powder-good stuff but messy!
bigjohn
You need some graphite dust that will sort it out

Doesn't matter now as sold the car decades ago but good to know I should use graphite powder next time should I ever get the same problem. BulletMagnet
What about this WD40?
glrnet
Dip the key blade in a little bit of methylated spirit and insert the key a few times, wipe the key with lint free cloth. Any remaining meths will evaporate in the the barrel and not accumulate dirt and dust.
