One day/week insurance...

Can anyone recommend one day or one week insurance policies? Im picking my new 350z up on Thursday but the garage obviously require me to have insurance to tax it and put it in my name and then obviously I'll need it to drive away. I don't plan on running the car till April and will be in with my mechanic until then (general bits and bobs done to it and mainly for safe storage). Due to this there is no point in me taking out an annual policy, but the companies I have googled don't seem very flexible. I'm 22, 3 years NCB and driving for over 5 years now. The garage 5 day insurance wouldn't cover me unless I was over 30! Thanks guys, James.

I had this trouble with the dealer I bought my Z from. Wouldn't give me 7 day drive away insurance unless I was 30. Maybe give admiral a call? Or worst comes to worst you have a cooling off period so take out the cover, get it to the garage and then cancel the insurance and get your money back :p

Haha thought about this already mate and although it's not ideal, it may be the only way if I dont get any luck!

Cooling off period only counts if cancelled before the insurance starts, so if you do that then you'd still have to pay the initial cover fee on it which could be 50% of the premium.

How about pay the garage to deliver it? Okay, you don't get to drive it, but could actually be cheaper.

Short/temporary insurance is pretty expensive...around £50 per day when I had mine for same reason! May be worth checking how much is your annual insurance and take out out that? As 2months of normal insurance might cost you same amount as day/week on temp insurance + then you have your car insured all the time and saves trouble with SORNing it etc :)

This is going to be very little help, because I cant remember which firm I used, But

When I was 21 I insured a BMW Z3 for the day for £12.

Was a specialist short-term insurance firm!

Bloody hell, that's cheap

Hi, we needed to Insure the 350z for a short period too. We ended up ringing the current insurer and they just added it to the policy for 4 weeks for about £50 including a £15 admin fee.

I also did something similar when selling my previous car, they swapped my new car onto the policy and added the old car for a week, so there was a cross over.

I've also taken out temp cover for cars before and found it very poor value.

Ring your current insurer I'm sure they can help you.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to spend all day tomorrow calling around insurance companies and seeing what they can do. Another reason I don't want to take out an annual policy just now is my current insurance is due up end of March which would then fit in perfectly with starting a new policy to cover both cars, extra years no claims, one premium (hopefully) etc... I'll let you all know how I get on but already fearing paying well over the odds for short term cover.

If you've only got a month left that should be perfect; it's exactly the same as us. My mrs current mr2 policy was due in a month so she rang and they added her new 350z so both were covered for rest of policy.

Give your current insurer a call first, it shouldn't be this hard!

Well my current insurer (quote me happy, part of Aviva group) wouldn't insure me cause I'm under 25. A lot of companies don't do mirrored no-claims bonuses either so was becoming quite difficult from the ones who do cover me to get a competitive quote. Ended up going through Adrian Flux, they sorted out a fully comp policy with a company who specialises in second/weekend cars and don't take NCB or anything into account. Not long till Thursday now!
