BobbyZ
This is great work - I wish I was handy enough to take on jobs like this myself, but alas...
scobie140
1 step forward 2 back today. Fresh new 10-50 oil changed in. Old oil had only done 300miles 😂 Although the pressure still reads low the temperature seems steadier when pressing on. I'm happy enough and will keep an eye on it. Found the culprit to the spurious oil weep! Hairline crack in the sump 😠patched up for now but still weeping when warm so will need to keep an eye on this. Time to source a new sump The rest of the jobs are on hold due to making the most of the weather and doing up the garden. No rush for them anyway. Bummer but Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
scobie140
Final map today :teeth:The injectors didn't play ball and the fueling chart was all back to front but Chris worked his magic and got it sorted eventually and put up with my 101 questions 20170605_125715.mp4 Happy with the numbers, We compared it to other supercharged zeds with the smaller pulleys running higher boost and my final numbers wasn't far off but i'm not going to chase those extra few bhp as i'm sure wbhp405 is plenty and hopefully safe & reliable enough. <iframe width="800" height="450" src="https://www.dropshot....mp4"></iframe> It's not stopped raining since getting it back so not had a chance to give it a good blast.Just a few bits and bobs to tidy up now, new sump has been ordered, the bearings on the idler pulleys to replace, washer bottle to ditch & paint work tidy up *gave up with photobucket but can't seem to get a website that will let me upload my video Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140
The Chubby Ninja
Awesome man glad you've finally got some decent power! Is that the 3.12 pulley? What's up with the injectors? Il be selling a set of 600s at the start of July if your needing a set as I'm going for 1000cc.405 at the wheels is decent, that's what mine had with the shotguns on it
Jake.Lowther
Awesome build man, once I'm a bit older and insurance companies will insure me with a boosted Zed I'm planning to do a very similar setup.
Stevie-Boy
Loved reading this thread. Started off with a few mods and then escalated to respray and super charger!! Really great to read and I'm glad I got to read right through to that sweet dyno result. Love the car and great thread.

It's the next size down, can't remember the size off the top of my head. I measured it cause i did think about changing it for the smallest one but wasn't sure if that would be pushing it too much too soon. They are 600cc but were a total pain to get the fueling sorted. The fueling chart was almost the polar opposite compared to normal. Chris smoothed it all out tho. I'll stick with 405 and just keep ontop of the maintenance. Slippy slope chasing numbers haha. It got to the point of sell and move on or keep and commit, but still loved driving it so put the money for another car into getting this up to scratch. I think it's the 3.12 pulley you have as the next 1 down is the smallest at 2.87.aye chris is really good and if it can be fixed he will fix it. Mine is booked into him at the start of July. Getting there with my build, started doing all the timing stuff last night but it's hard on my brain trying to work it all out haha. I'm hoping to have the engine built by the end of next week. Ive got a drift competition on the 8th of July so I need to get my finger out haha Edited June 7, 2017 by The Chubby Ninja
scobie140
Yeh that's the one! I was on my phone and couldn't find the sizes but remember it now. That good news I'd love to do an engine rebuild at some point but not got the facilities just now, just hope it happens by choice and not forced on me Cutting it fine for getting the feel of the new engine for the competition! scobie140
Been quiet on the car front due to working on the garden so the jobs have been slowly piling up. Finally finished the garden so time to knock a few of the jobs off the list or atleast make a start. Known issues; Banana arm bush is well gone now Cracked oil sump Passenger brake was squeaking constantly Drive belt idler pulleys starting to squeak. Had a look at the brakes last week and it turns out that the inside pad had seized in the caliper discs were looking a bit done anyway so time for some fresh discs. New banana arm bushes from clarkemotorsport New oil sump Ripped off the lower sub frame and arms. It all came away pretty easy, i'm not used to this The banana arms were replaced by the previous owner the week before i bought the car so decided to re-use them and just replace the bushes with whiteline. As you can see they are pretty worn. I'll not have access to a press until this weekend so this is as far as i can take this just now. Moved onto the front brakes, decided on black diamond discs all round and ferodo ds2500 pads on the front with black diamond predator pads on the rear. Nice easy job. The hardest part was getting the seized pad out, this took some persuading. All pistons moved freely and piston seals in decent condition so happy with that. Not much difference between front and back All fitted and bled, calipers badly need a re-spray! Something came up so this was as far as I've got. Hopefully get the sump done today if the weather holds out but i'm not getting my hopes up. While the lower sub frame is off i'm going to clean up and paint it.

scobie140
9 hours ago, The Chubby Ninja said: Is that a japspeed sump bud? I thought they had stopped making them Its a copy of the Japseed one which is a copy of the APS one Ebay special from the far east. It's just cast aluminium and seems decent enough quality, more importantly its not cracked! I did try to source a APS one but didn't have any joy. Due to speed bumps in my street I can't risk any of the other brands which offer either spacers or deeper sumps I need to go wider for extra capacity. Rained off today and nightshift all weekend so will hopefully finish next week
scobie140
Managed to get up early and get a bit done before heading out for nightshift New sump with oil sensor and blanking plate ready to fit New sump allows me to use y magnetic sump plug. Really happy to have this back in. The offending crack. never noticed this the 1st time i fitted it as it only shows when the plug is in but it does explain why the plug was a slack fit. Annoyed as I should have noticed this but at the time was rushing t get the build finished. Previous owner was obviously a bit heavy handed with the sump plug Had enough time to whip off the idler pulleys. The two ones with the green seal sound rough but the orange NSK one sounds and feels fine. I'll get these popped out and get new SKF/NSK/FAG ones ordered up as this is the brands we use a work so know they are decent. Bearing sizes are 6203 for anyone needing these in the future
scobie140
Got a bit more done today. Lower front subframe grit blasted and painted. Just used hammerite with a brush, its possibly the worst finish I've ever seen but its 2 really thick coats & out of sight under the car so better than it was before Old bushes pressed out New ones ready to fit nice and snug, suspension doesn't sag anywhere near as much when lifted with the new bushes so shows how much play they last ones had. Rear discs and pads were badly needing done! Driverside Passenger side compared to new ones Bled the brakes through with just under two bottles of RBF600. Way overkill bleeding this much but got carried away Now for some bad news, checked all the wheels while they have been off and all were fine apart from the rear driver side. two bits of metal and a bit of a gouge out the tread. Never had to put any air in when I've checked the pressure so not sure how recent they are but another repair on the to do list. Nothing major just another niggle. Just awaiting pulleys arriving from america then she will be back on the road and booked in to get the calipers resprayed
scobie140
Pulleys arrived a few days ago so had time to fit these today Getting a little belt screech ever so slightly, Quite alot of tension in the belt so will monitor it and see how it goes as I don't want to over tension it and knacker any bearings. I did use a spare used belt to bed the installation in & have a new one in the garage so will replace it when its off the road for the winter and see if that helps as it does have some signs of cracking & wear. Booked in to get the suspension all lined up on wednesday so thought i'd have a go at freeing off the camber and toe bolts. On second thoughts i'll just order new ones I did give them a wire brush and a soak with easol but i'm 99% sure they will shear when attempting to slacken. Now time to bed the new discs & pads in Also booked in to get the calipers re-sprayed on Tuesday.
scobie140
Tried to fit new ball joints to day and failed miserably My g clamp exploded while trying to press the old ones out. So gave up on that for for today and back to the drawing board. I'll get another clamp and try again but worse case scenario I'll have to take the full assembly off and use a press but if rather not due to the logistics involved in that just now. I know If I ever get the time i'm going to download all my pics from photobucket and try and put back as many as possible into the thread. I'm just glad I got it supercharged before photobucket went south as god know how many times I looked through other peoples builds and guides for advice and forward planning. Hopefully I'll have all the niggles worked out before I take it off the road for winter and next year I'll just have to service it and enjoy driving it! Fed up with it being on axle stands and everyone asking whats wrong with it now?
scobie140
The cars been sat up on axel stands for a while due to a mixture of waiting on parts, weather & work. New beefy ball joint pressing tool arrived Happy days, only none of the tools that came with it fitted the ball joint correctly Had to improvise and make something up roughly, and i mean roughly Popped out no problem with a lot of brute fore and a roasting New ones on the left, old on the right. Old ones were free to move but couldn't feel any actual slackness to suggest they were overly worn. Got new cones, which turned out to be the wrong ones the one on the left is the original I removed from the old joint Just a very slight size difference. Sized up the new ball joints and found they had 0.022" interference fit Couldn't find any details to see what size this should be, it was a bit less by the time I had cleaned up all the scores etc. So the ball joints took a trip to the freezer and the hubs got a roasting prior to fitting. Again none of the parts from the kit fitted the ball joints correctly so had to improvise again, luckily 2" socket fits perfectly Built back up now Took it a quick spin but can swear i'm still hearing a banging noise going over the speed bumps Although there is a chance it could be something I've installed when fitting the supercharger, at least that's what i'm hoping for. Struggled to get any movement on the arms with my pry bar like was managed before but i'm still not convinced. I'll book it back in for the tracking and hopefully all will be fine. 1st start for a while and forgot how squeaky and screechy it was until warmed up, I've got a new belt ready to be fitted over the winter and i'll change the jack-shaft bearings as i'm sure thats where the new squeak is coming from. For now I just want to enjoy the last wee while before shes back off the road. Edited October 4, 2017 by scobie140
scobie140
So i've done hee haw since it was parked uplast month, hopefully will get some time this month or next to catch up on the niggles. I seen these on sale and though meh why not? Plugs into the OBD port so no fafing about running cables to the battery. I'm not expecting much as its winter in scotland so sunshine is pretty rare but it might help stop it going stone dead like every other year when I forget to run it/ stick the trickle charger on it every month. Prob a waste of money but

Just not had much time, Its on the to do list though! It was mega helpful for me checking out other members builds. Gutted photo bucket ruined most of them, and a lot of them were old ones so most likely will never be updated.
