scobie140
So yesterday started off with me getting myself all confused by over thinking the set up of the fuel regulator. This has been sorted now and just needs the last bit of plumbing. Massive thanks to all the help in this thread http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/114218-fuel-regulator-set-up/page__st__20 Nicked the o-ring for the fuel dampener It was well oiled but had been in and out god knows how many times while I was confusing myself, so a trip to halfords for a 175 peice o-ring kit was required Removed the sump All cleaned up New bigger sump fitted Sandwich plate for oil cooler and hoses fitted, I've still to fit new oil filter and oil but it's not arrived yet so just stuck the old one to keep the system free from contaminants and bagged the ends of the oil hoses with rubber gloves and tucked them out the way. Old plugs removed, thankfully no nasty suprises Newish plugs to be fitted, I also have a spare set of the same plugs but with a 6 in the modle number instead of a 5 but these looked newer so went with these. And lastly managed to snap this while getting out from under the car, so will be looking for a replacement soon. Still to do; Finish of the fuel system and get the regulator mounted and pipe work all tidied up. Put the ignition to on and check for leaks Refit lower plenum( can't fit the upper half until i make a new gasket for the kinetix plenum) Mount oil cooler to crash bar( hopefully the intercooler arrives before this so i can make sure I get the holes in the right place, don't wan the bar to look like Swiss cheese). Fill with oil and new oil filter Fit mounting bracket for charger Fit intercooler and plumb it up. Try to figure out what PCV set up I require Try to figure out a place for a oil temp sensor Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140
scobie140
So after a quick chat with Dyna tune They have advised to change the plugs to the 1 step colder so these will be swapped out at some point. Held up with weather and parcel force taking a week to deliver a 24hour parcel so not much progress despite being off work for a few days. Last chance to get anything done for the next 6 weeks today was hampered by rain but I did what i could. K&N filter for the passenger side PCV Roughly fitted for now Had to remove a few pulleys to get the charger in position, only to get hampered with more wiring getting in the way! Some time in the oven and the pulleys slipped back on no problem. Chucked a a spare used belt on for now just till its been ran as there is already a few clearance issues. Might need to buff the cover a tad as its touching the belt I got a break from the rain so decided to get the upper plenum stuck on. Had to make a new gasket as the last one came off in bits. Fitted, still need to tidy up the outer edge of the gasket Not ideal this but you can see the gauge fine. Fitted the inter cooler and the first two pipes. Need to take the bend off and put the washer pipes under it. Inter cooler will need moved back a about 5mm to allow the oil cooler to fit in my pre guesstimated position that I drilled out before the inter cooler arrived. I'll also need to make up some sort of bracket for the power steering cooler. Unfortunately its not going to progress much due to work for 6 weeks but glad to feel like its within touching distance. scobie140
Managed to squeeze in a little bit of work last week and today, Its frustratingly slow just now due to work. Set about changing the plugs to the 1 step colder when disaster struck and the magnet in my spark plug socket gave up resulting in a dropped and broken plug So ordered some new ones. Struggled to get NGK from the uk without paying over the odds so went for the equivalent denso plugs Catch can turned up, Small but should be fine. Not much in the way of a inbuilt baffle system but i've modified it slighlty Stuck in some filter mesh into both sides of the little screw off diffuser to help give more surface area for the oil to condense on. And of course a stainless woolly ball I've not fitted this yet but got some hose and a NRV so all good to go when i get the chance New horns fitted and a rough bracket made up for the power steering cooler rather than holding it in place with cable ties. Its hard to make out but trying to show that the bracket is keeping the cooler clear from the intercooler. Bought a Oil temp gauge but wasn't sure where to fit it, luckily the sump had a large AN fitting plug welded on to it so drilled this out to accommodate the sensor. Pulled in a favor to get a 1/8th NPT fitting welded onto the drilled plug. This sits in the sump so will give me an indication of sump oil temp. Just got to figure out how to wire it up now. Photobucket is brutal to use these days, so slow and laggy. Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140

Had pretty much the same issues as you've had in the past lol. Haha Cheers, Its been daft little things that has taken more of my time than expected and doesn't help I've been doing it on the drive way contending with the Scottish winter weather I'm just glad i'm over the worst of it now and should get it finished when work quietens down. scobie140
Again not much progress due to work but got a few hours on it over the week. Got the intake fitted and finished so happy its another job ticked off. This was meant to show that it had a few mm clearance but my camera skills clearly failed This took a good bit of playing around with to get the right angle cut on the supercharger end so it would sit square I opted for a solid 90deg elbow to remove any worry of hose collapsing, its all good now but was a total ball ache and a lot of trimming plastic to allow it to fit All finnished I fitted a NRV to the brake servo line aswell but never took any pics of that. Few more weeks of over time then I should be back to having free time to push this on a bit more Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140
evilscorp
Have you tried fitting the bumper bracket back on? In the process of grinding mine some more so it doesn't mark my pipe.
scobie140
Have you tried fitting the bumper bracket back on? In the process of grinding mine some more so it doesn't mark my pipe. Not yet but i did offer it up and yeh its going to need a date with the grinder aswel. My pipe is already well marked after trying to rush it one day when the rain came on I'm sure it will be one of many things that's going to need a bit of trimming come the end of this build
scobie140
Got a wee bit done yesterday but the weather was too nice to be spending all day on the car. Fitted the remaining intercooler pipework so glad i've got that boxed up Anyone fitting this in the future fit this pipework before installing the charger and bracket!! it made access a nightmare, struggled on and got there in the end. Slight concern about the bottom pipe sitting low Had a bit of a mare with my catch can as my original location which was perfect is going to be fowled by the BOV Finally found somewhere to stick it but i'll need to make another bracket to turn it 90deg as I think the hoses will fowl the bonnet. I did look for 90deg fitting but can't find any metric parallel threaded fittings with hose connectors, all the fittings I can find are bspp or bsp but i'm 95% sure its a metric thread. No biggie i'll just make a new bracket and turn the can. Weather is due to be dry today so will hopefully get a bit more done Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140
scobie140
Bit more progress today Sensor fitted Wire fed into cabin, bit messy but should seal fine. Still to wire the gauge up at a later date PCV set up 95% complete, Just need to make a new bracket and turn it 90deg Boost line set up for fuel regulator, BOV etc Wrestled the oil cooler lines into place changed oil filter & filled engine with 5L of oil for now. Next oil change i'm going to get new hoses made up as these aren't flexible enough but they will do for the time being. Weather is going downhill for the week and back on overtime next week so back to slow progress for a while This will give me time to figure out how to either do away with or replace the passenger side washer bottle to allow the cooler pipework to fit better. scobie140
Builds going backwards Been too busy to work on the car but its managed to spring a leak from the sump. I'm pretty sure its from the blanking plate as I made he rookie mistake of not removing it as it felt tight, Although after going round re-torquing it all after the leak was discovered it feels like one of the bolts is stripped. So i'll whip it off and either drill and tap it or helicoil it if there's not enough meat to go up a size. A silly oversight but nothing major, glad it showed up now though rather than possibly catching me out later on. Spotted these bushes looked past it while i've had the car on the ramps. So soaking all the bolts in plus gas, managed to get the two shock's bolts out copperslipped and re torqued so far, I'll have another go at the others when i've more time. Jon at emperor tuning sorted me out with a good second set of arms and clark motorsport sorted me out with new whiteline poly bushes, So I have these prepped and ready for when the car comes back from being tuned. Old bushes pushed out easy and new ones went in after heating the arms and freezing the bushes plus a good bit of encouragement from the press. Working overtime again so not much spare time but not much left to do, the finishing line is in sight Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140

scobie140
How hard/easy you finding doing this on your driveway and by yourself ? Wanting to fit the charger myself also but never done something like this before. If your handy with a spanner its pretty easy, a bit daunting at first when you have a massive list of jobs to get through but if you just break it down and plug away at it it's not too bad. I'd say the hardest parts for me was fitting the fuel return line as i for life of me couldn't get it through the passageway or getting the gearbox back on myself on a monoblock drive way . The few times I did get stuck or wasn't sure I'd just jump on here and search or ask questions. My biggest issue was time, I've been doing constant over time since Feb almost so just been doing an hour here or there so its been slow.
scobie140
Sump removed, thread was stripped and bolt was held in with loctite or something to appear tight. Drilled and tapped to the next size up and re-fitted the sump. No more oil leak Made a new bracket for the the catch can so it sits better now and fitted P clips to hold the wiring loom away from the charger gears, re fitted the strut bar after a re-spray since the bases had a bit of corrosion on them. How the bay sits finally Front end for now, washer bottle will be removed and pipework adjusted after the mot Lower arms fitted now Old arms out Old bushes pressed out, fair to say they've seen better days. Hopefully that's all that will be needed for her mot Cleaned up the old arms in the blaster and gave them a quick coat of matte black Turns out the two sets are different part numbers if you look closely at the numbers on the arms in the pictures. Only difference I can see is that the ones I've fitted now have less of a recess for the ball joint nut which doesn't allow the split pin to be fitted so i'll take these off and thread lock into place next time i'm under the car. Bumper is trimmed and re-fitted, under tray etc all re fitted. no pics Car was booked in to be taken to dyna tune today but the company let me down by blanking my phone calls etc when they never turned up . Trying to find some one else to do it but struggling, anyone local got any suggestions? Still working overtime so not sure when i'll be able to get it through now So its all washed and ready to go I think haha Edited December 26, 2017 by scobie140

scobie140
Its been a while but a small update. Some good some bad. Car is mapped as far as possible, Chris has taken it as far as the clutch will allow before is starts slipping. The new clutch isn't playing ball due to not being bedded in(baptism of fire on the dyno ). Going for a Mot tomorrow then all going well I'll get it picked up soon. Chris has limited the revs to as far as it's tuned and i'll run about in the car for a few hundred miles to bed the clutch in then get it back in to him for the final tweaks. It will be nice to have the car back but will be gutting to have it restricted for a while and have to explain to everyone that It's not ready yet and I have no final power figure just yet. Nearly there though!
scobie140
Clean sheet for the mot Got the car back now, so many new noises to get used to as normal! Single mass light weight fly wheel sounds more chattery than youtube videos showed hopefully will quieten down a bit when bedded in but does make a big difference at revs climbing / falling. I'll need to work on my rev matching for smoother changes as i'm a bit jumpy with it just now until i've re calibrated my footwork. A lot of steady hissing when cruising at a steady speed and an addictive woosh when you come off heavy throttle, can't wait till its not restricted to get the full effect of this. I'll need to do an oil change as the oil pressure is far too low with the 5-30 oil, so thats been ordered up. Annoying as i'd just spent £100 on the 10liters of 5-30 but my fault as I prob read that it needed thicker oil and just forgot. Went to wash the car today and noticed a oil stain on the drive, quick look and it would seem that pesky oil leak is back on the sump so will have a look at this again! Need to remove the passenger side washer bottle and sort the intercooler pipework now I'v got an mot. I'll whip off the idler pulleys and get the bearing numbers from them so these can be ordered up. one of the 3 seems to have a lot of play like a spacer is missing or its mounted the wrong way so will need to address this. Other than these minor issues I'll just need to try and rack up as many stop start miles as possible so I can get her back in for the final tune.
