350 Russ
I've seen this before, it has been posted up here when it first came out. Bloody clever stuff imo. would like to see this implemented, probably not for another 15-20 years though in normal cars.
a2orry
Formula one engines have had air operated valves for a long wile it allows them to rev very high.

Dblock
I've long thought cams are very old tech and something should replace them but I never knew what lol.
KyleR
Thats incredible! 30% smaller, lighter, more powerful etc whilst up to 50% less emissions. Hopefully he's right and it'll be out in the next 3 years or so. This tech should also enable Nissan to keep the V6 in Zed cars whilst still hitting green targets etc *cough cough* V10 Zed *cough cough*

Dblock
Square cam profile is very interesting. obviously you can't have a square cam but it opens quick stays open and closes quick.

Stutopia
I was chatting to a knowledgable fella at work today and he said he though there was a similar attempt with solenoids back in the day, possibly lotus.
Chris AME
very clever stuff, F1 and moto gp bikes have been running this for a while
imhereithink85
I thought Moto GP ran pneumatic valves and not solenoids? Fingers crossed for the next few years, will be interesting to see who brings it out in a full production engine. That Saab must be worth a few pennies now with that upgrade
