zxrob
When I bought my Z it had a private plate on that the guy kept, all new documents came through with the old registration My log book has a statement on it saying "non transferable number plate" Is it the case that a vehicle can only change it's reg plate once I have private plate that I wanted to put n the Z Rob

Commander
Pretty sure that just means it's a 'normal' plate - you can't sell it onwards but you can replace it with your own private plate if you want.
Lexx
You can put your private plate on. What it means is that the guy who you bought it off had is private plate on from new. When the DVLA assigned a reg for it when he removed his plate, it's one from their "stock" and becomes the cars first ever DVLA plate. Which is the one it will revert to when you remove your number plate in the future. Probably starts with an M the one that's on it?
