WhackyWill
Wish they would make their minds up. This is from today..!! Michael Schumacher has 'blinked' and is 'responding to instructions' - reports French newspaper says Formula One champion blinks during the “first stage†of brain tests Sunday 02 March 2014 Doctors say Michael Schumacher would have died straight away if he had not been wearing a helmet when he had his skiing accident. Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is “responding to instructions†as medics gradually bring him out of his coma, according to reports. It has also been alleged that the seven-time world champion has blinked during brain tests. Citing “very reliable sourcesâ€, L’Equipe newspaper said Schumacher has undergone a number of neurological tests since Monday and he has responded “positivelyâ€. Schumacher, 45, was plunged into an artificial coma after suffering traumatic brain injury in his near-fatal skiing accident on December 29 in the French resort of Meribel. Shutting down function can give the brain time to heal. The sports daily revealed on Wednesday that medics had started the process to end his coma by gradually reducing the dosage of powerful anesthetic drugs being administered. glrnet
Let's be honest, until there is an official statement from either is management team, the doctors looking after him or his family, all of this is just speculation to sell newspapers. I agree, but within 3 days you get two completely contradictory statements..!! All stating "from a reliable source", cannot be that reliable . Ekona
That's because it's all made up. No more truth to any of that than this: NEWS JUST IN: Schumacher has woken up, and asked for a packet of Jaffa Cakes in fluent Japanese. Sadly, he now thinks his name is Hoisin Tinky Ping Ping, and will only eat the aforementioned McVities snack. An inside expert has confirmed that he also now strictly wears leotards in bright green, and loves watching re-runs of Dallas. This insider has also claimed that he expects Michael to return to top level motorsport next week, when Vettel quits RB to become a house husband so his fit wife can take up pro-wrestling. Just as believable.
WhackyWill
LATEST TODAY. Michael Schumacher: Sabine Kehm confirms F1 legend is 'still in wake up phase' and dismisses other medical reports as false Various media reports have claimed that attempts to wake up the seven-time Formula 1 world champion have been halted due to complications, but Kehm has dismissed these as “not valid†and has confirmed attempts are on-going in a process than can last months. “Michael is still in the wake up phase,†Kehm said in an official statement. “The situation has not changed. Any medical information published which is not confirmed by the team of doctors treating Michael or his management has to be considered as not valid.†Schumacher has been in a coma since hitting his head on a rock while skiing off-piste in the exclusive French resort of Meribel on December 29, and has undergone two operations to reduce pressure on the brain and remove haematomas. glrnet
Such a shame, for them to say he is still in the wake up stage but nothing has changed can't be very promising. Brain Trauma experts have said that the longer it goes on like this his chances of a meaningful recovery are limited.

WhackyWill
So true..! Never before has an old Autosport cover been more poignant as now. This is December 31 2009 as MS was considering coming back to F1 with Mercedes. Now, five years on, we all have to say a little prayer that he is going to come out of his coma. With all the best planning in the world perhaps John Lennon said it best "Life is what happens to you when you are planning for other things". glrnet
Not so encouraging now it's been updated IMHO, purely a statement by the family, hopefully there is some medical substance to this and not just released because F1 resumes this weekend.

WhackyWill
Schumacher suffered from 'serious lapses of judgement' by his rescue team Gary Hartstein, F1’s chief doctor from 2005-12, has launched a scathing attack on the treatment Michael Schumacher received in the critical minutes following his skiing accident, during which he was initially airlifted to the "wrong" hospital. Speaking to The Sun, Hartlein said: "You do not take patients with a suspected head injury to hospitals that do not have neuro-surgical capability." After first being taken to Moutiers Hospital Schumacher was then airlifted to Grenoble University Hospital, where he is now. The American also asserted that it was becoming “less and less likely†that the former world champion would “emerge to any significant extent†from his coma. Hartstein wrote on his blog that the treatment Schumacher received “could, and almost certainly did, worsen the outcome in Michael’s caseâ€, citing what he called “usually impeccable sources†for his information. On the topic of whether Schumacher would be moved, Hartstein went on to speculate: “it is possible that the staff at Grenoble feel duty-bound to NOT place any pressure on the family to transfer out, despite the terribly dismal prognosis... because of the clear (but unquantifiable) contribution of medical misjudgement to that prognosis.†However, while his blog post was far from upbeat on Schumacher’s condition, Hartstein did concede that “his entourage is totally confident with the quality of care Michael is receiving†as evidenced by the fact he had not been moved from Grenoble. Indeed, a spokeswoman for Schumacher last week announced the 'waking up phase' was continuing and "would take as long as it takes". Meanwhile his manager, Sabine Kehm, backed her client's doctors by saying “We’re taking this fight on together with the team of doctors, whom we fully trust.†Schumacher has been in a coma since banging his head against a rock in a ski fall in Meribel on 29th December. Seven-times Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, who suffered serious head injuries in a December skiing accident, is making progress and showing signs of waking from an artificial coma, his agent said on Friday. "Michael is making progress on his way. He shows moments of consciousness and awakening," Sabine Kahm said in a statement. BulletMagnet
http://www.f1today.net/en/news/schumacher-out-of-coma-and-recognising-wife Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, Michael Schumacher is out of his coma and recognised his wife according to several media sources. The 45 year-old suffered a severe brain haemorrhage after a skiing accident in the French Alps of Meribel and was placed into an artificial coma in December last year to reduce swelling on his brain and pressure on his skull. He was initially listed as in a 'critical' condition, but after several operations by Doctors in the Grenoble hospital his condition improved to 'critical but stable'. Since then, the German has shown steady signs of improvement such as being able to breathe unassisted and has also briefly shown signs of consciousness. Despite a lack of media attention at his wife's request, news on Michael has been regular and informative with the latest reports suggesting that the former Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes driver has claimed his biggest victory to date. According to one source, his manager confirmed that Schumacher had awoken from his coma and is talking to his wife, Corinna. We are currently awaiting official confirmation from his family.

BulletMagnet
But then again... http://www.autoevolution.com/news/michael-schumacher-out-of-coma-rumors-are-not-true-yet-80473.html It could have been the good news of the month, if not even the entire year, but unfortunately the reports saying that Michael Schumacher has come out of coma and is recognizing his wife are apparently bogus. A coupe of hours ago, the Spanish version of Russia Today reported for some reason that Sabin Kehm, Schumi's manager, has told a German RTL TV channel reporter that Michael Schumacher has come out of coma and is able to recognize his wife. The hundreds of thousand of Schumacher fans around the world probably rejoiced when hearing/reading this, including most automotive media outlets who jumped at the unconfirmed news and filled the Internet with similar reports. We have no idea what was the original source for the bogus report, albeit the Spanish version of RT is the most quoted, but according to Bild journalist Nicola Pohl, it is all a lie. “Schumacher awake? Sorry, but those Rumors from Spain apparently not true. Kehm just texted me she hadn't confirmed anything to RTL.†Nicola Pohl said on Twitter, and we tend to believe her. As usual, any information concerning the current state of Michael Schumacher should be taken with a grain of salt if it isn't coming from official sources, in this case a press release from Sabine Kehm. The last official report about the septuple Formula 1 champion arrived about two weeks ago, when Sabine Kehm informed the media that “There are short moments of consciousness and he is showing small signs of progress,†when asked about his health. As you surely already know, Schumi has been in a medically-induced coma for almost four months, following a skiing accident which caused him to hit his head on a rock on December 29. We will keep you informed if anything new related to his condition happens.
