GC350z
Why not give Nissan a call. See what they have to say on the subject. Might be interesting.
Beavis
Thats 3 for buy it back and 2 for get another! If only emotions weren't involved.... I'm going to push hard to get the engine done. I'll emphasise this is a limited edition vehicle (one of only 76 UYs), lovingly cared for, no other faults, no other third party or personal injury claims on this incident ....... Anything else? Yep i would push for a new engine too
Sarnie
Absolutely no way would I buy it back unless i was going to be keeping it forever and selling it on was never going to be an issue.
WoREoD
New engine has been authorised but now got problems with the dealer! Looks like it could take a while to sort. Funnily enough this is one of only two cars I've ever owned that I've thought of keeping forever. (I'd started thinking what to have next but the initial plan was to keep the Z for fun and folics!). Thanks for your thoughts and support everyone. JK
Chesterfield
John, Gutted to hear of this, I hope everything is sorted quickly for you. Hopefully the dealer aranging the work will pull their finger out and sort things quickly, I know my dealer took forever to get my roadster sorted when it needed some work, I can only imagine the fun involved when one is ordering and fitting a whole new engine. I would imagine that its not the most common of jobs the engineers will have performed on a 350Z, so I feel patience will be the key. Im always concious that if Im on a dealers back about an issue - it will get rushed and Ill end up with a sloppy job having been done. Then on the other hand you dont want them to be slack about it and be waiting forever for the car to come back. Hope you are back in the big canary soon. I was out in ours yesterday for the first time in the sun for a while - the yellow certainly is the best!
WoREoD
Problems with the dealer are much more complicated than that! The franchise is changing hands next Friday and the new principals dont want to take over any ongoing commitments from the old (or even parts!). Current dealer wants to take the car to another garage they own and do it there. But they aren't a Nissan dealer or service agent although they say they will be! As car is still under warranty and new engine comes from Nissan, I want replacement done by a NMGB authorised dealer just in case there are problems later (oh no sir, its not the engine, its the way it was fitted ...) And NMGB Customer Servces say they dont know of any of these dealership, franchise changes! Oh, deep joy!
Trev-the-Rev
Have you considered going to another dealer outside of your area? Logistically more difficult agreed, but may be easier and quicker in the long term.
martinmac
Have you considered going to another dealer outside of your area? Logistically more difficult agreed, but may be easier and quicker in the long term. Having noticed the seemingly vast difference between dealers for simple things such as servicing can anyone recommend their local dealer within a reasonable reach. I had major problems with my 300, put in for a simple cam belt problem ( or so they said) and it was farmed out to a tuning specialist who took his kids school fees out of it. Afterwards ( great) Nissan uk where very supportive and suggested this was what I should have been told to do by the idiot dealer. It would be nice to think that a "good" dealer would see the potential in sorting this, wouldnt be costing him anything and you cant buy good will. So sad and so frustrating though. I rarely go for the sensible commercial option with something like a Z as it is not just a car. See the amount of cash we spend on them anyway, if its possible, I would be keeping it. All the very best of luck mate, with the right dealer on board it may even be worth driving a Micra for a while.
WoREoD
Called in at the new premises this morning without saying who I was. It does look like they are branding up for dealership launch, plus salesman says their service department has always been Nissan approved with all technicians Nissan trained, so I'm feeling a bit better - but I'm still asking for a written assurance from them. JK p.s. Do have a different dealer backup, and, much as I trust them, its the hassle of having car uplifted for a 100 miles and dealing with them remotely which is holding me back.. WoREoD
Latest news is that dealer has written authority from insurance company to proceed. Bare engine should arrive from holland tomorrow and they hope to have car back to me late next week. Work is now being done in Reading due to franchise change delays! Muttley's coming home!
