R34Nigel
Hello all, Its been a little over a month that I have had my car and I have one very slight niggle about it. Whenever the car has been driven with some enthusiasm it has a strong smell of oil fumes or exhaust fumes when it comes to a stop. I have checked the exhaust system and its definitely not leaking and wonder if anyone else has had the same symptoms?? Cheers Nigel
ioneabee
if its brand new yes - I had the same - however, looking at your sig - an anniversary edition ? if new exhaust - again likely to get some bedding in smells as it "cooks"
Suits
Yeah, I get this sometimes. I describe it as a hot rubber smell, sort of comes from the front arches and no, it's not the tyres from the horrendous factory under steer, lol. Seems to happen in periods for me, I put it down to grime and other bits just burning off or the hoses getting up to temp and cooking. My car stands for large periods of time so I don't think that helps. I got para about it and searched the American forum and there were lots of bits on there about it. Although largely their issues were after 3000rpm launches.
R34Nigel
Its done 25k and has an aftermarket system, checked at every joint for a leak and pressure tested and not a hint of escaping gasses.
R34Nigel
Its definitely not a rubbery smell, its very like burned oil fumes.
WhackyWill
Sounds like its a blocked oil breather Edited December 16, 2013 by WhackyWill
R34Nigel
Sounds like its a blocked oil breather Is this common, and something that the local dealer will be able to solve? The car has a full Nissan cared for warranty but I don't want to hand it over for them to spend ages trying to sort..

Brayster
Any sign of oil under the engine cover? Different I know but I had a similar issue with 2 of my previous cars with small oil drops dripping onto the hot exhaust periodically
Arran
Check your rocker covers and spark plug tubes I bet they are leaking oil
R35LEE
We had a customer come in complaining of exactly this issue. It was indeed an oil leak coming from the sump & rocker cover, not too bad but enough to make a stink! Where are you based Nigel? A good specialist on here should be able to help or one HPC's that isn't on the naughty list

No idea what it is/was.....

MAYHEW820
Got this with mine too. After a detailed look I found that the left hand bank cam cover gasket has the smallest of leaks onto the left hand bank manifold heatshield. The paper trail is thin as mine is low miles with clean oil which doesn't leave much evidence but after the winter lay up I found the mist of oil on top of the shield. First run of 2014 was a bit stinky when stationary but all burned off and fine now. Will attend to this next winter lay up as is too small to worry about during spring/summer usage.
