asif.a
Hi Guys, I would like to know if anyone can recommend a soft-top specialist for my 2005 350Z GT as it seems to be playing up? It was working absolutely fine before but now it only opens approx 90% and it wont go all the way down in order for the boot flap to close. Can anyone help as I need to resolve this asap? Thank you. ioneabee
there are many posts on this - its a temperature issue (most likely) its too cold at the moment - I think anything below about 8 deg C (not sure on the actual number - but its well documented) use the search function
SteveM
what he says..... the only way you will get the roof down on a nice cold sunny winters day is to either park in the sun to warm the roof or drive with the heaters on full to warm the roof up before you try and put it down. the roof material is quite a heavy one and becomes quite stiff when cold. if it does it again just put the roof back up and dont keep trying as you can cause problems trying to force it! Briggsybriggs1
Welcome along I have the same problem when really cold and yea it's most likely the cold temp it hardens the fabric for the roof. I put my Z in garage and cover it up it helps.a little bit. IF U Force it u will rip it And don't take it to a nissan garage they can't understand roofs and tell u the unit if worn and tell u it's about 8 grand to fit it :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited December 16, 2013 by Briggsybriggs1
Will370z
Yup its a temperature related issue and is very common for 350s. I wouldn't like to take my nissan to a main dealer regarding the roof unless it was a more significant problem and i really trusted them and knew they know what they were doing. I remember Sly at Kaizer motors saying during training he went away for 2-3 days just to cover working with the roof. There are certain roof alignments that are set when the car comes out of the factory and if they mess with those you then get more trouble than you had before. JetSet
I believe that the handbook states 5 degrees centigrade but in reality it's higher than that, say 8-10 degrees. Pete
Ridz
JetSet is correct. The handbook states a mimimum temperature of 5 deg C, but you really need temps around 8 deg C for the hood to be pliable enough to fold flat.
