Fluke
I am after a cheapish dash cam, it needs to be discreet. I don't plan to use it on track, but would like to be able to record journeys etc.. Has anyone got any recommendations?

TomS
Has anyone tried the Mini 0801? I've got two, front and rear. Bought from a UK seller in case of any issues, easier to send back to a bloke in Manchester than China! One of them is knackered but the other one works great. GPS works perfectly and the cameras small enough to be fairly discrete. I can upload a bit of footage if you want but it'll be from the rear. marzman
I had an email about one on offer today. For 20quid it looks ok! http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Camcorders/MyMemory/MyMemory-HD-720P-Car-DVR-Driving-Recorder-with-140-degree-Wide-Angle-Lens?utm_source=MyMemory+Newsletter&utm_campaign=a5396c5516-Christmas_Day_1112_6_2013&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b9c4e6e430-a5396c5516-60868517&mc_cid=a5396c5516&mc_eid=4c8bed0d2a
TomS
You need 1080p to be able to read registration plates, anything less and it's ok for trackday recording but turd for anything else! It's £20 for a reason

Home Slice
My friend uses this, it was voted best on Fifth Gear by VBH. It does continuous recording or 9 minute chunks when the G-sensor is activated. http://www.gizpro.co.uk/in-car-camera/dp-r23-hd-model.html
yankeesiter
Quite happy with this: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...ME:L:OC:GB:3160 but TomS is right. You need 1080p to read number plates.
z350convert
Yes I have one pretty much like this with front and back camera. The rear one can be turned to film forward through the cabin instead if you want to film yourself doing everything wrong. It's just to keep a record so it's on with the ignition and stays on, recording over material when full. Simples. Most seem to come from China and the instructions I think are written by the same bloke who did the sign language at Mr Mandella's funeral - so not a great deal of help. Quite happy with this: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...ME:L:OC:GB:3160 but TomS is right. You need 1080p to read number plates.
TomS
Best place for information are the following sites : http://dashcamtalk.com/ http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/ http://www.techmoan.com/ I wouldn't trust any cameras being reviewed by a TV show as they could easily be getting paid to say it's good. 1080p is minimum, GPS is great, G-Sensor is great but means the camera needs to have power 24/7 so you either need something like "Blackvue Power Magic" to stop the battery being drained or to just have the camera turn on with ignition (which is what I have). Blackvue cameras seem to be good but for the price, several hundred, they don't offer enough of a performance jump over the Mini 0801 and similar cameras. Techmoan.com reviews a lot of cameras and if he says the 0801 is good, it's good And if you buy one that is well supported on dashcamtalk you can just post a thread on there and should have all your camera problems solved! Fluke
Having looked at most of the videos on Techmoan, I went for the mini 0801 in the end.

stone
If you have a spare Android phone or other smartphones, there are free dash cam apps that turn your phone into a high resolution dash cam complete with auto save, save to Youtube, save photo etc. The one I had used is called "DailyRoads Voyager" but there are others such as "Torque App", "Autoguard", etc. However, if you'd like a dedicated dashcam with reasonable price, take a look at: http://www.szswill.com
