Ceejay29
Hi Guys, I am after some advice regarding camber and wheel spacers. I have lowered the zed substantially on coilovers, run 19inch wheels and 30mm spacers (size determined by original owner – need to confirm this) that also acts as a PCD converter. After fitting adjustable camber arms all round, I decided to arrange a geometry, toe and camber set up. To my amazement I am running -2 degrees at the front before adjustment, which I would deem dangerous as I have a low profile stretched tyre (225/35) meaning that the inside rim edge is precariously close to the road surface. I cannot add any positive camber as the arm is fully extended, is this a direct consequence of running a spacer that is too large? If so can simply send it off to be reduced in width? Thanks
Briggsybriggs1
Most cars on here have small spacers at the front and bigger ones at the back think about 10mm difference , I'm not to clued up on lowering. But if u move the wheels away from the car they will travel more so more movement so I would remove the spacers on the front and check it again
ColinS
I can't see how spacers affect camber, they just move the wheel further out don't change the angle.
Richie-B
Is it not more due to the ride height?
Briggsybriggs1
This lad explaines all the stuff check his posts out Think with moving the wheels away from the center off the car u have altered the steering axes as well as lowering it anyway check them links out. :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Ceejay29
The steering axis video is great, will look at the other vids. Thanks for the help guys, will let you know how I get on
GT4 Zed
It's a consequence of lowering period. You have 2 choices raise the car until you get to your desired camber eg 1.5 deg or buy adjustable front camber arms or superpro eccentric UCA bushes to replace the oem bushes which will give you a max +0.5deg camber(range +/- 0.5 deg) The cheapest way is to raise the car. The best way is to get adjustable arms, the bushes have only a small fix range and will including the labour to fit will be the worst option. FWIW -2 deg camber in front is very good for handling especially if you also have a small toe out. For reference I run -3 deg up front and the inside wear rate is not as significant as I originally feared. Get rid of that stretched tire and get the right tire for the wheel which really is the issue here!!
Ekona
^^^ That is one of the best posts I've ever read on here. I know I say this often, but I absolutely could not agree with any of that any more. Great stuff matey Edited December 10, 2013 by Ekona
Lexx
Change the tyre. Job done. I have never understood the stretched tyre look.
Ceejay29
Thanks GT4, very helpful. Yes I am going to reduce the width of the spacer, change the tyres and maybe tweak the camber more. Thanks again
ColinS
-2 on the front pretty nice. Just put the proper tyres on.
Ceejay29
Morning chaps, What are your opinions on these stats? I didn't want neg 3 camber at the rear due to tyre wear and surface contact, although this is necessary until I have further arch work carried out. KyleR
-3 will be fine, -2.08 is the "max" I think but running -1 more won't make that much of a difference. If you have the arches rolled -2 is probably possible as the wheel doesn't simply travel up and down, it tucks in.
