Had a look today, coming up nice and smooth It's a really good finish for a DIY job, but only issue with doing it your self is you do have errors, could of flakes of dust etc got, which isn't an issue for me. As the main reason for this was to get it down for Japfest/Siege, and then take it to a body shop to sort the bumper and wings out, as they couldn't promise they'd finish it before the weekend.] But really happy with the result, just a couple more days to settle then I can buffer out some Lacquer runs. Only thing that bugs me is I should of changed where the black finishes. It seemed like a good idea to have the body colour in the crease, however I'd now wish I filed that with black. So earlier in the week I ordered some new rear tyres, wanted to go up a size to remove some of the stretch. Was running 265, due to keeping the tread in the arch on stock suspension. Now that it's lowered and tweaked, I could get away with a larger tyre. So I stepped up to a 275. Was a good decision imo, looks better and it's just nice knowing I have more meat on the ground. Oh and It means I lose the Nangkangs And maintain Hankooks all round...Which keeps Dan happy...ish. As well as new tyres, couple of weeks ago, after following a facebook group in America for some time, and seeing StevoD apply them to his, I went and got some tyre decals. Going to Marmite for some - As with all of my car But I love them. Nice and unique. These are different to your usual tyre sticks/paint/paint pen - These are rubber based material with a designed glue to allow the them to bond and react with the tyre wall, with this material, it allows you to clean them unlike the other methods. You can vigorously scrub these and they won't fall off So, Japfest....I was shitting my self going on to track again I had a lot running through my mind. Mainly, don't blow this one up But this was the first time for a lot of things. First time with the new engine, First time with the new clutch First time with the new suspension -Coils, Arbs, Drops Links, Camber arms. I was very nervous about the Drift works camber arms...No reason to be, but for first time use, I always had playing in my mind...they could snap Anyway....SHE SURVIVED! Was a great time out on track with Mr Tarmac Sportz in the car. We had a good run....but wasn't my best. Ran into a few issues out on track, - Straight out of the pits, my clutch pedal decided to stick (It's been doing this since the engine swap) It disengages/engages the clutch fine, it just doesn't come all the way back up. But was hoping I had solved it by doing a temp clutch fluid change the day before, but it didn't. So will do a full proper change in the next week or so. That wasn't a huge issue though, as the clutch was working perfectly fine etc, was just clutch pedal positioning that was a nuisance. - Suspension... Since putting the rear tyres on (Bigger size) I've realised one side of the suspension was higher than the other Thus one side rubbed a lot on a left hand corner. That wasn't too much of an issue as Combe is 95% right hand corners. But apart from that, the suspension was glorious round quarry etc stuck to the road and just glided round, no over steer, no under steer, just tyre squealing - Brakes... This was my main concern, After about 2 laps my brakes started to feel different ( They're planned to be changed before the end of this month, just thought they'd be fine for japfest) Was just a sketchy feeling when braking, possibly heating or pad wear, unsure yet. But this put me off braking late into a corner entry, so I ended up slowing down a lot sooner than usual just the be on the safe side...I blew an engine up, I don't want to crash the chassis this time. But new brakes will be on order this week. - Suspension... On one corner there was an odd knocking noise/feel coming from the front right, again unsure what yet, could be a whole mix of things. It's a shame my suspension wasn't setup and ready for this, as it would of been so much more fun out there. Sly didn't seem really interested in carrying out the work when I went down there a couple of months ago. So going to give Jez at Horsham a shout this week and get it booked in with him before I go to the ring. Other than that, it was a great time out on track, look forward to going back out there when the car is fully setup and ready this time. Ekona Posted May 18, 2015 Share Posted May 18, 2015 I only say to change the master as when my clutch went iffy I got the slave changed, then after the first hard drive I discovered the thing was still bollocksed.
