GMballistic
My lights are hazed pretty badly and I'm not sure whether it's condensation that dried out inside the headlamps or something else, anyone had similar stains on/in their headlights? Yep that's exactly how my headlights used to look before I did my restoration on them. See below quote on how I fixed mine. Just thought I'd add to this thread now as today I used the Meguairs headlight restoration kit "plus" on my Zed. It's their new version of the kit which includes 4 grades of wet & dry on two handy little pads. Link: http://www.ebay.co.u...=p2054897.l4275 Firstly I used the kit without trying the sanding pads ~ this gave me a good finish but there was still bad fogging on the corners of my lights. So I manned up and used the sanding pads. It was worrying at first as obviously you are adding scratches at first when you use the pads. In fact after using the first grade of pad and wiping off the water you can see it totally hazes your entire light cover. I persevered with the sanding using one grade at a time, lots of water and following the instructions using one side to side, then the next up & down and so on. Once I had completed the sanding steps I then went back to using the mop and PlastX ~ this was when the magic happened and finally my headlights look "almost" as good as new again. Very happy with the results and wish I'd tried this in the first place rather than the other products I had tried which where useless.

Brilliant, thank you for the quick reply! I was worried it was on the inside but in that case I will get it sorted asap. When you do it get some masking tape to go all the way around your headlights to protect the surrounding paint work from the sanding pads and mop with PlastX. Also make sure you follow the instructions about using the sanding pads to the letter and use them in the correct order. e.g. Roughest grade>smoothest grade. If you can as well buy some UV protection to go on top of the headlights afterwards to keep it from getting UV damaged again for as long as possible. Adrian_CNC
Yeah, I've done the same thing on my Civic so I know how to do it. I was planning to use a sealant this time, I think I'll go for this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Surface-Sealant-Glass-Inhibitor-Repellent/dp/B00A3S1RGU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Seems to get good reviews from people who used it on their headlights.

Definitely use a sealant so that the restoration lasts. I might have to get some of that stuff myself so good head's up thanks.
richard.hezlett
Sorry to cut in on topic but if you order the uv sealant directly from glasspolishshop.com you will get free p&p.

Just to note, on their website (as above), it doesn't name plastic in the "you can use this sealant on" list so I'm not sure how well (or if) it will bond to the headlights or how long it will last. Any better suggestions mate? GTechniq possibly or other?
ilogikal1
Any better suggestions mate? GTechniq possibly or other? I'm still experimenting on mine, but GTechniq C1/4/5 should work in theory, but I've not got round to trying that myself yet. If I find anything that does work I'll certainly let you know.

Cool, ..if C4 work's that would kill two birds with one stone for me as you know. ;) Let us know if you come up with anything.

Yep, it might justify the outlay that little bit more for you. The theory is that the lens' are plastic (well, polycarbonate) and C4 is designed for plastic and offers UV protection, so I have very little doubt that it should be perfect for this but I don't want to say it is until I've tried it for myself. If I ever pull my finger out and get my wheels refurb'd and C5'd, I'll be able to test it but I don't want to crack the bottle open until I've at least had the wheels done. Don't expect it to happen any time soon though, I've been meaning to get the wheels done for about 2 years now.
spursmaddave
You can spend £20 or more on specialist products if you want or just use a bit of whatever you clean your exhaust with, autosol or metal cleaner. Pretty much anything with abrasive in does the job, tcut, rubbing compound even toothpaste.
Martinjj
Yeah i've seen toothpaste is an option, couple of Youtube videos on people using it, pretty impressive results for low cost and a bit of elbow grease..
Roland Rat
Did mine with toothpaste, use the whitening variety as it works pretty well i have to say!!!

I tried Meguairs ScratchX 2.0, Autosol, Uncle Pooters Blue Bullet and a few other products on my headlights and none of them got them to look as good as they do now after using the Meguairs headlight restoration kit. Maybe my headlights where in worse condition than some others but they looked basically identical to the pictures Adrian_CNC posted and only the Meguairs kit with the sanding pads got them back to new condition again. Just my experience. P.s. I don't work for Meguairs fyi so have no reason to favour their products over others.

Anyway wasn't £20, ...it was £17 actually.
