justlukeyo
Hi, Im just wondering if anyone as heard of 'Power Over Wireless' the transfer of electricity to things such as cell phones without a cable. Apparently also a cell phone company has taken out a patent for a device that switches the cell phone on when it detects a wireless signal and powers itself. So you dont waste battery power but when you find the wireless power it charges itself - pretty cool.
sinbad
Was in the News recently. Has a range of about 10 meters though and requires a transmitter of some sort. I can see it getting more popular in the long run but how would energy companies charge? certainly sounds good anyway
holtehero
theres a company called splashpower who do inductance charging via splash plates that get built into desks, also used in some electric toothbrushes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/2861987.stm Also it probably won't be long till you see fuel cells in mobile devices, though the issue of transporting fuel is probably the most difficult thing. Also, there are other things ongoing such as nano technology, so both the components and power consumption are greatly reduced.
