parello9
So had the plate on for about 4 months not had much bother but tonight i did! I've got to change it and its £100 fine now instead of £60 which it used to be! I swear most people on here have a small plate like mine? Whats the most legal one i can have just completely standard ?? Its going to ruin the look of my car now
grahamc
they should have fined you for the BMW centre wheel caps But in all seriousness, I have no idea, maybe check the DVLA site?
Scott TMN
Either temporarily change it back? And take your chances as you have been (that's what a mate if mine did with his illegal tints) Get a show n go retractable plate like myself Or Display it in your window. Don't quote me on this but I believe it is actually legal to do so, but again don't quote me but could be worth looking into? Lovely looking car btw mate
davedutch
You can still have it centred, just full size, I don't see it ruining the look and £100 every time you get stopped soon stops being funny! Just found out the hard way that fixed penalty also gone up to £100 the fine is worse than the points

Lovely looking car btw mate Try not to do the window trick Can still get fined without a valid reason. I.e. Bumber re-spray, broke off etc. Even then they will say why are you driving it etc. I'm pretty sure It's an illegal size pal I'd just take my chances. And say you're new one is on order
ATTAK Z
just put a legal size one on
Dblock
I run a plate probably about the same size but because there is less letters I have the correct spacing and BS logo.
GMballistic
What ATTAK Z stated imo. they should have fined you for the BMW centre wheel caps But in all seriousness, I have no idea, maybe check the DVLA site? ..and this. Gorgeous Zed though.
KyleR
That's looks like a half sized plate almost, don't most on here with off sized plates run 3/4 which is a bit bigger and tends to get over looked? That might be the same size, though, just the picture making it look smaller than it is.
4RE Leather
I have a stick on like the etype used to have. Spacing is a bit naughty though on mine. However the letters etc are the correct size. Its not the size of the plate it's the size of the lettering I am led to believe!

This tells you about letter sizing and spacing;- http://www.direct.go...t/dg_067666.pdf And some more light bed time reading here:- http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/contents/made#6 Only scanned it quickly but it does seem it is the size and spacing of the numbers and letters that will determine the size of the plate.
SamN
Plate in window is just as illegal as not having one on at all, for reference. There's no minimum plate size but there is minimum character size and spacing, which are on the dvla site I believe, can't quite remember them off the top of my head. What size is that plate? I have a 12x3 on the front which is a little on the tiny side! Edited November 14, 2013 by SamN
Paddy78
Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure that once you get pulled for something like this, your car will be flagged up next time the police spot you? Worth getting a legal one... although there are far worse motoring crimes which seemingly go unpunished (Your centre caps and ride height for example!) ph 7
Ouch, never realised it was so expensive on the fines. I think your car will still look good with a standard plate on it.
Y23DRH
I put these on in the end uk plates with nismo surrounds but still not 100% sure if i like them but deffo stay with the legal ones
parello9
Well thanks for the replies guys... The copper did give me abit of paper saying the letter had to be i think 74mm high! Mine were only 60mm.. He took pictures with his blackberry and will save it to something for reference Think ima just get a plain legal size plate no border or anything, just plain and simple Think it literally is what copper it is on the night.. He was just sitting in a bay watching cars go past waiting for someone!
370Ad
When I got pulled three years ago for an illegal plate I got let off the fine as I was carrying legal ones in the car and could apply them there and then. Not sure if he was just being nice!

Alot of old style mini people run them with no issues. wether thats because the car hasnt changed since the 60's im not so sure.
