Randy_Baton
I've been working on the front end of my car and just wondered if this level of rusting was normal on a 2004 plate? First notice an issue when trying to install new side lights as one of the bolts on the underside of the bumper sheared off under not much pressure then this bit fell out of my car. I was then trying to replace my reflectors and another bolt sheared off and noticed how rusty this part was. Its the same on both sides of the car. The area is above the front tyres where the bumper meets the body work. the photos is taken pointing upwards
Flex
That does seem a little excessive, might be worth getting the car on a ramp and having a good look underneath.
R35LEE
I wonder what condition your cat heat shields are in and your rear 'W' brace after seeing that Get under and have a look mate
peteman35
You will find it to be that rusty on the front of the car. It will never see clean water behind the bumper and get all the spray from our salty roads! Like others said well worth checking it over
Stutopia
My w brace on my 2004 was just a rust sculpture, but having seen underneath a few times I can't recall much with this kind of rust, just some surface stuff on the ARBs. Randy_Baton
The trouble is I rarely have clue what your guys are talking about . Would any of that be picked up by an MOT? it was last serviced in August this year. It did have an advisory for slight corrosion to front brake pipe, slight play in roll bar and slightly pitted front brakes. Nothing else in the front looks any where near as bad as that, its just the bolts that have gone a bit rusty. There is a rust bubble on the bonnet though. R35LEE
The rusting is normal mate, If it passed an MOT then all is good but there may be a few parts on the underside that may need removing and replacing in the not too distant future. Nothing to worry about though
Flex
Where are you based? Might be someone close by that can have a look at it for you on the forum.
Randy_Baton
Brighton. I was thinking about finding out about the Zed Shed southern division. I'll be in Birmingham end of next week + the weekend though. Edited November 12, 2013 by Randy_Baton

gareth29
Happily, the bonnet is aluminium, so will not rust. On the subject of rusty wings - I found quite a few zeds with rust bubbling thru form the inside, so the first thing i did when i bought one was to clean (and underseal) out the lip around the wheel arches esp the rear oneis cos it really collects a lot of mud and moisture - ideal for corrosion to start
