Zhorno
What benifits do thees have , how do they work ? Sorry it's probly a newbie question.
longsh07
Correct me if im wrong but they basically increase the volume of the plenum thus allowing more air to be drawn into the plenum and ultimately the cylinders. The main reason for fitting I believe is that the VQ35DE engine didn't quite feed two of the cylinders with air properly. Increasing the volume helped get more air to these cylinders. Zhorno
So In turn it's like having a air filter fitted because of better air flow so would increase bhp ?
wmr1980
It lets more air get in to the engine (as mentioned a couple of the cylinders are a little restricted), but the plenum alone without a remap you won't get the full benefits. However, it's worth doing as a 1st step to getting a bit more out of the DE engine. You may get a bit more of an induction noise, certainly if you change the air intake. Changing the air intake doesn't do much in terms of power (you may lose some) but you benefit from hearing the V6 a lot more clearly. That with a plenum and a new exhaust system and a remap and you'll have a pretty decent (modest) gains, with a more driveability and torque and perhaps 8-10% hike in power. longsh07
Very small gain I'd have though however because of the way the ECU works it would dial out the gain over time back to what it expects to see. If your planning to do or have done any other mods have a word with Abbey Motorsport. They can do an UPRev tune on the car to stop it from reducing the power gains from the changes (edit: it also gives some other benefits). BillyZed
As for the air filter, keep the standard box and get the velocity stack as it's proven to give more BHP than aftermarket air filters
wmr1980
Go and see flyboy for his velocity stack in the member trader area. Worth it, and agreed with Billy. Pop chargers make nice noise but won't necessarily bring you any more. The plenum is definitely worth it as first step in the performance improvement route. Wasso has a range of high quality anodised plenums available in many colours. Edited November 5, 2013 by wmr1980
