stuarty
Hi, i'm currently using a mixture of Autoglym and Dodo juice products but i'm looking to buy some new stuff soon. Can anyone recommend individual products that they rate highly and don't cost the earth? What i need is listed below. 1) Car bodywork shampoo 2) Polish 3) Paintwork sealer 4) Wax 5) Wheel cleaner (really mild) 6) Tyre dressing 7) Leather cleaner/conditioner 8) Car mat shampoo 9) Glass cleaner 10) Engine bay dresser 11) Paintwork tar/ contaminant remover Thanks in advance! HaydnH
My preferences: 1) I like Meguiars Soft Wash Gel, although it is really bright pink which may put you off. 2) Menzerna stuff 3) Don't use 4) Dodo juice supernatural, slightly expensive but when you sit at a traffic light in the rain staring at the beading on your bonnet it's worth it 5) Britemax Ironmax or similar 6) Megs endurance tyre gel (there was a specific tyre gel thread on here and about 75% of poeple recommended this) 7) Dr Leather wipes, so easy to use 8) I just hoover but might be interested in others opinions on this 9) Autobrite Hellshine PAIN (love this stuff, tried the dodo juice menthol stuff as a switch last time and binned it!) 10) There's a specific thread on here about cleaning your bay, plastic bags, elastic bands, all purpose cleaner etc 11) Same as 5, but also google "detailing clay bars", I quite like the megs clay bar kit Other) A lot of detailing, in my (fairly nooby opinion) isn't just about the products above but the quality of the cleaning gear. Try googling: - Snow foam - Two bucket method - Yeti's or Wookie's fist or any wool wash mitt (or anything about not using a sponge!) - Uber Yellow or wooly mammoth drying towels - Plenty of varying quality microfibers (from cheap for dirty areas to good quality for buffing off your polish/wax - I like the dodo juice supernatural range ones but they're expensive) - I'd recommend a DA + masking tape, scary before the first try but it's really easy - Wax applicators, again I like the dod juice supernatural wax finger applicators if you can pay that much for a bit of sponge - Detailing world, awesome web site with plenty of info Edited October 29, 2013 by HaydnH
GMballistic
Few things I'd recommend for definite are; "Meguiars" Gold Class car wash (shampoo & conditioner), "Car Plan" Demon wash snow foam (shampoo), "Turtle Wax" Ice synthetic paste polish (car wax/leaves no white residue), "Auto Glym" Intensive tar remover, "Auto Glym" Hi-foam interior shampoo, "GTechniq" G6 Perfect glass (also G1/G2 clear glass water repellent kit). Sure some others will help to add to your list.
downhuman
My list would be : 1) Car bodywork shampoo - duragloss 901 2) Polish - by hand I'd recommend Autobrite Hellshine Eliminator which is brilliant 3) Paintwork sealer - I'd always recommend Zaino z5. 4) Wax - would not use with zaino as unnecessary but on its own either dodo juice supernatural hybrid or britemax vantage if you want pure wax 5) Wheel cleaner (really mild) - sonax extreme total effect. You will never find a better or safer wheel cleaner 6) Tyre dressing - Meg's endurance gel if shiny, dodo tyromania if matte 7) Leather cleaner/conditioner - zaino leather cleaner and feed 8) Car mat shampoo - recommend autosmart bio brisk foam cleaner 9) Glass cleaner - autobrite hellshine pain 10) Engine bay dresser - autobrite Jaffa which is combined cleaner and dressing 11) Paintwork tar/ contaminant remover - autosmart tardis
ilogikal1
1) Car bodywork shampoo - Poorboys Super Slick & Suds 2) Polish - by hand I usually use a glaze or AIO instead to make do until I can machine polish. By DA, I currently use Menz polishes. 3) Paintwork sealer - G|Techniq C2v3, Werkstatt Acrylic or FK1000P - I only tend to use sealants for winter though. 4) Wax - Poorboys Natty's Paste Wax or any Dodo Juice for a quality "budget" wax. 5) Wheel cleaner (really mild) - I don't use anything, they're clean when using normal car shampoo (or even just snow foam sometimes). 6) Tyre dressing - Megs Endurance 7) Leather cleaner/conditioner - Raceglaze Leather Cleaner/Balm respectively. 8) Car mat shampoo - Finish Kare 121 (interior cleaner) 9) Glass cleaner - G|Techniq G6, closely followed by Hellshine Pain 10) Engine bay dresser - 303 Aerospace Protectant 11) Paintwork tar/ contaminant remover - Autosmart Tardis/Wolfs Decon Gel respectively. If you're interested in trying different products, have a look for the WaxyBox thread on here, it's about £10 per month (as and when you want to do it, not subscription) and they send you sample products.
