jumping350
Ive tried 4 cables now and it sparked slightly as i plugged the last one in,lol yes my lights in house work
longsh07
If the PSU had gone I think you'd smell it. Whenever they have blown at work they tend to stink like smoke!
ioneabee
just checking most likely your psu - have you another computer in the house to swap it out with
marzman
Open the case up... can you see any lights illuminated on the motherboard? If not then your PSU has most likely blown. Order a new one online... you should be able to get one for under £25. Or if you have any work colleagues you could borrow one off, its a 10 minute job to swap out (4 screws in the back, and then just unplug all the plugs.) jumping350
Yeah i read about the smell but couldn't tell as i have a cold, Il buy another one tommorow and try, really odd ive opened it up no loose connections or fried boards looks all ok

ioneabee
any one for now - probably best in excess of 450w though - but if going for a new one would aim at 600w

Fodder
If it's a gaming rig you will most likely require a high rating one as graphics cards can consume a lot of wattage... Check what you have now and go by that
ioneabee
also check the power requirements on your graphics card - gaming ones usually require a 6 pin supply to it - and on the whole they're not standard
longsh07
Corsair have a good rep if you get a new one
jumping350
Doesn't appear to have a light, if it does its not on, had it over a year and no probs so would have thought its capable
neo
If it's a gaming pc with high spec then u need to get at least a 650watt with 30amps or more on the 12v rail and not a cheapo ebay one either, OCZ/corsair seem decent brands, i have a 750 corsair one cost me close to £70 tho think this is mine - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-TX750V2-Enthusiast-Series-Bronze/dp/B004O0P9VC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1382907491&sr=8-4&keywords=corsair+750 shot up in price tho
Gudzy
The cheap power supplies may have a certain wattage rating but won't provide the power efficiently or regularly. There's an an 80 plus certification to show how efficient a power supply, stick to one with a certification or a well known brand if you can. ioneabee
defo budget one is NOT the way to go - you get what you pay for in these things
neo
http://www.ebuyer.co...-fan-ocz700mxsp ^^ might be suitable for your needs ? depends what gfx card u have, does it need 1 or 2 6pin pci-e cables ?? remove the PSU that's already in there and see what the rating is, should give you a good idea what to look for
jumping350
Ok mine is a rohms 450watt , i nipped down the road and ended up with a new gaming pc cover that has a qtec 450watt psu in it,hopefully its ok, just got to figure out which plug goes where
4RE Leather
Is there not a small glass fuse just b4 the motherboard? I have a quadcore ACER Predator Gaming PC and it has a glass fuse in it!

stubzie83
Could be the 5v standby power has failed either in the PSU or on the motherboard. This is required for the soft start switch that turns on the computer. I once had a motherboard that had this issue as some of the capacitors on the standby rail had failed preventing the switches from starting the PC. If you can find the pin out for the PSU you could check the 5v standby rail output with a multi meter or check the voltages on the power switch connector on the motherboard. jumping350
This is getting confusing lol what's my pcei cable?
