Ekona
Then yes, that's a great hot hatch if you can live with the looks. Go for it

Stutopia
I don't know much about the Megane but the cam belt went on my Clio at that mileage. Is it due? Is it cheap? Could be a chain for all I know, but worth a Gareth Keenan style invetigation.

aidan
FWIW - I think that seems like a fair swap. Cambelts aren't expensive on french beasties - providing you get an independent to do it. If the seller does the belts and bungs you a couple hundred quid.....you'll be doing well. Just remind the misses that although four seats....getting in the back of the megane isn't easy. You sure about that? Rs engine cambelt changes are usually pricey. I'm sure parts alone are £150. For a clio F4R it was about £600 from Renault and about £400 from an indie specialist. A specialist had to do it also.
aidan
400 quid? I don't reckon thats expensive for a cambelt fitted? Tensioner needs done at same time hence why its a bit more than normal. Not sure if water pump is due at same time but probably budget in that too. So if you can wangle seller doing work...then think its a fair swap. Edited October 20, 2013 by aidan
daveparkin
£500 to do the belts at an indie like K-Tec, £600 if you do the water pump, too. Belts should have been done a couple of years ago on that one by now. Just put a deposit down on a Liquid Yellow R26 last weekend - waiting for the seller to get the private reg. removed now. Reliability is a concern with these, but you can't have it all, eh? Have a look on meganesport.net and there is a buyers guide there. Mainly looking for belts being done, leccy windows working, wet floors, seized front hub swivels, clutch troubles. Consumables aren't much cheaper than the zed, so I don't expect it to be particularly cheap to run. Happy searching.

If you think £400 even though it's £500-£600 I don't know what you have drove in the past? It's a lot of money since you have to strip half the engine lol. A "normal" car is usually a few hundred pound including belts.
