HollowPoint
Spotted a rather nice 350Z on the way home from work tonight, with a rather large bonnet bulge. I remember someone on here commenting that it meant something, but can't remember what?

kbeast35
That will be a 313hr '07 on, it's the easy way to tell it apart from others
HollowPoint
Ah ok, so sort of like a 'facelift' version then?
Will370z
Different engine, hence the bulge
JetSet
Ah ok, so sort of like a 'facelift' version then? The HR engine on the 07's is slightly taller than the DE engine, so the earlier bonnet just won't fit. You can however fit the bulge bonnet onto the earlier cars, quite a popular mod. ATTAK Z
Different engine, hence the bulge Yep, the HR engine would not fit under the DE and uprev DE bonnet PS ... the HR engine is identified by a dipstick that was not designed by a dipstick
Bems
The bulge is due to the 313 HR engine. Although it sits lower in the engine bay than in the earlier DE versions the block is actually longer hence the actual requirement for the bulge.
HollowPoint
That must be the first Z dipstick to have not been designed by a dipstick then, as my 280zx and z32 300zx both have dipsticks designed by dipsticks! JetSet
Bulge bonnet on older Zed (mine) and on a genuine 313 (Andyvvc). The darker the colour the better they show up! Pete
HollowPoint
Yeah the one I saw was gloss black and stood out a mile!
cs2000
I do quite like the bulge, but I also like the lines on the standard bonnet.
chubbster
Ah ok, so sort of like a 'facelift' version then? Standard Z = 2003 - 2006 ......276bhp Facelift version = MY06 onwards (this refers to a range of small improvements on these models, eg., improved quality interior, speed sensitive power steering and LED rear taillight cluster - plus other things) .......296bhp Bonnet Bulge = MY07 onwards (taller engine 'with 80% new components', apparently) .......313bhp Edited to add bhp's Edited October 9, 2013 by chubbster
KyleR
Is the MY07 not 306 BHP and 313 PS?
Watshot
Is the MY07 not 306 BHP and 313 PS? 313ps is closer to 309bhp. Actually 308.7 or 230.2kw. Edited October 9, 2013 by Watshot

PS stands for Pferdestärke (horse-strength in German) 280 PS = 276 BHP = 206 KW (in round figures)
