wmr1980
Wasn't sure if this belonged in electronics or general... so Mods feel free to move. Is it possible to upgrade the really rather rubbish key fob (which is the same as a Quashqai!) to a flip-type or at least a nicer looking key? Or is it a case of just ignore it and deal with it! spursmaddave
It is possible but really difficult and you only get a flip type key which is generic like VW/Seat etc. I think someone was selling a shell on here the other day so have a look in the For Sale section
RDON
in USA they can get a fob with four buttons on!!! not sure what all the functions are though...
Paddy78
Lock, unlock, lights and boot... sorry trunk! RT Buscuit sells (or used to) carbon dipped covers for the original key. They look pretty cool and saves the faff of a flip one.
wmr1980
Thanks Dave will do. It's not a big deal, it's just a bit of a rubbish key fob. Yeah I noticed the USA keys are a lot more extravagant.
RDON
I wonder if we can get them programmed for ours?
Stutopia
I keep considering an ebay flip key, but I get the fear of the top notch metal snapping off and leaving a nice chunk in the ignition.
Tinyflier
There is a thread in here about this topic. It really isn't that difficult, you can buy a flip key case and blank blade off eBay, transfer the circuit board and transponder chip, get the blank blade cut to match your key and job done. Took me a couple of hours, including getting the blade cut, the hardest bit was getting the spring loaded key back into the shell. A few folks reported having trouble getting the blade cut accurately but it worked first time for me, visit a really good locksmith and you should be OK. wmr1980
Interesting - can you link me to a thread or do you have a guide as to what you did?
Stutopia
Not sure if this is one tiny meant but it has detail. Might need to hunt through the thread pages though as the key detail is spread around. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/67735-flip-key-nearly-sorted/
