944tman
One of my friends has been through 3 clutches in 10,000 miles, and has commissioned an engineer who found that the clutch was permanently loaded, hence casuing premature wear. He's a car nut, the car is pristine, never tracked. Nissan say its down to driver abuse, we differ. Does anyone else have any similar experiences ? Please feel free to PM me if you want to keep this off record.

Zedrush
hmm, I know that when I put my car in first gear and go when I take my foot of the clutch and accelerater it carries on going quite a bit before it stalls is that a tell tale sign? Removed
heard of a few clutch failures, but mostly due to driver abuse. 3 clutches in 10k miles would be ALOT of abuse. Definitely something wrong imo.
bigphil
We have had two cars recently with premature wear on the clutch, in both cases the slave cylinder was found to be at fault, basically the clutch was not disengagin.
janian
Because we have had a clutch go at 7k I am interested to know how, having read this topic and also postings under the warranty topic , Nissan could blatantly turn around and say they had no other complaints about a clutch burning out at such a small mileage. What is a slave cylinder, what does it do and can it be checked out to see if it is working properly .... ?
Stew
Nissan Lie. Simple as that!
Trev-the-Rev
I've had 3 clutch thrust bearings replaced in a similar period and the problem still persists. Fundamentally, when changing gear at high rpm the thrust bearing emits a chirp when the pedal is released.
944tman
I'm no mechanic, but I understand that the slave cylinder is what you operate via the clutch pedal and opens the clutch. If it doesn't retract fully the clutch operates as if your foot were on it permanently, slipping it. This increases wear. Its a fault basically, and no-one would expect a manufacturer to admit that its a known fault as it would open the flodgates, which is why we're having to take the matter to court. If 'Trev the Rev' would like to pm me we'd be fascinated to talk to him - maybe we'll get a class action going here !
janian
Well our so called "driver error" has just cost the best part of £1,000 so we would be interested in getting together with other people with the same problem to push Nissan a bit harder ....
