laidbackluke
Hiya! I expect this has been answered somewhere down the line, but I tried searching with no prevail i'm new to the 350z forum and to 350z's on the whole! mine is an import and im figuring it is restricted to 120mph, not that this is a speed i'll ever reach haha! but i was wondering will the restriction hinder other mods to the engine? i read somewhere that when fitting things like the JWT charger its advised to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU, and just wandered if the restriction in place would make things run a little weird at all? Suits
If yours is an import mate and it's been registered over here with an importer it will have been converted, MPH, rear fig light, etc... Normally when importing they disable the speed restricter. Give the importers a call and check with them, they'll be happy to help they normally are. laidbackluke
ahh okay, so its had the main clock converted to MPH, rear fog so sounds like we are in luck! the only worry i have is the car came with very little history so will need to check for an import certificate so to speak :S
coldel
I think the restriction is to something like 110? In any case if you are going to be modifying the engine you will be looking for the remap at one of the various specialists (Abbey etc) which will remove the limiter, if indeed it is still there. laidbackluke
ahh okay cool so for now dont worry about it, but when ive added the bits and bobs ive bought then take it up for a remap, is that the right idea?
coldel
Yes - usual process is to increase the air flow as best as possible ie velocity stack in the airbox, plenum spacer, sports cats, exhaust then apply the remap - if you do the map first you then change anything substantial you need to pay for extra dyno time to tweak it. Do read the various threads, bear in mind all that will cost you circa £2k and you will probably gain around 15bhp - the remap is more about the drivability of the car than any big power gains. laidbackluke
ahh okey doke the car's already had exhaust, cats and soon a jwt intake, and to be honest that will probably be it for me, im not wanting to thrash it if im honest, just seems like a wated purchase not to have the remap to bring it all together
coldel
Yep should definitely remap it if you have done all that - it will really change the drive of the car.
rodgeevans
Only way to remove the limiter that i know of is via a remap or a hks speed delimeter/defender type device it wouldn't of been done on import as far as im aware they only change to meet legal requirements and removing the speed limiter is not a legal requirement
Suits
My S2000 that was imported from Japan had the 112mph limiter removed. I believe it's as simple as sniping a wire, however, I'm not sure. On the CRX imports there were no limiter just an annoying bell/alarm. Most reputable importers will ask you if you'd like the limiter removed as part if their UK prep work. My experience is with Honda's however, so Nissan may differ in areas.
rodgeevans
Thanks for the info Suits didnt realise they would offer that however someone may be able to correct me if im wrong but im sure the 350Z limiter is done by the ecu and a remap will also remove the UK 155mph limit too Edited August 7, 2013 by rodgeevans
hensh65
Gavo on here has an import which is limited to 120mph which he has 100% confirmed I don't think they take the limiter off when converting to UK spec but a remap is the best option, if you have upgraded the exhaust already then you would be as well to spend slightly more on the plenum spacer. Means after the remap you can be sure you have squeezed all the performance out it without going FI.
laidbackluke
going Fi? is that forced induction? sorry...newbie
