Engine life of 350z ?

Hi,

Was seeing if anyone knew anything about the engine life expectancy of a 350z (approx)?? Mines at just over 100k miles ... As I found out in my previous car - mazda rx8.. Engine rebuild is expected around 70k miles !

After owning a handul of Rx7's and loving the rotary powerplant I think the Rx8 has put the final nail in the rotary coffin sadly, there was no way Mazda should have released another rotary unit that was doomed for early failure. Ok, perhaps unsuspecting owners just treated it like a piston motor and didnt expect them to use oil as they are designed to and all the other little associated tips but I guess most just buy a car that they can get in, start, use and get serviced when the light tell thems.

As mentioned elsewhere I thought one of the design briefs was an engine that did 200k :)

I read somewhere it was a myth that RX7s and RX8s needed a rebuild @70K miles. Or, maybe that was someone selling an RX7 or 8

luckk of the draw like most things depends on usage and maintance i have a friends (yea i know everyone says that) but hes just sent his for its first rebuild at something like 103k he had been using it as a daily for the last 4 years

down to a combination of things one of the biggest one's that may lead to premature engine problems that's out of your control is how it was driven / maintained before you bought it apparently every car has had 1 careful lady owner

including mine i bought it with 70k on it seemed perfect untill i blew the engine at 74k :) a friend of mine has had his from new serviced regular and has 150,00 miles on it

I'm on 211,000 miles. Reliable as ever although it's running a little rough intermittently, likely electrical faults somewhere - I'm working on it! Compression is still good, cam chain is on its last legs, clutch is original and fine!

I don't know if there's a guideline on chain wear as Nissan say it lasts the life of the engine, which is a little vague. And wrong. Id say it's a common sense thing in the eyes of a competent mechanic/engineer, although I don't think one would fail spectacularly before throwing DTCs. The wear in a chain happens on the pivots, they don't 'stretch' as such, and in my line of work 3% is the limit of stretch as a percentage of the original length.

Il do mine this summer but I find it frustrating trying to source reasonably priced parts in the UK. Importing a kit from America seems by far the cheapest option for my old hack, if it was a low mileage minter I'd be more tempted to look at nissan parts.
