twobears
So many suggestions BBK, I have lots of animals to look after (kept at home, I'm not a zoo keeper ) so I have to venture outside or they'd all starve Is it the Avon Skin So Soft spray that you Avon fans are telling me about? I bought some of that and tried it on my horse but didn't think it worked very well so decided against using on myself, particularly as it was really greasy but maybe it would work? I'm trying the Smidge as soon as it arrives but will try the Avon in the meantime. I've actually opted out of putting the animals to bed tonight because that is when the midges lie in wait for me. They don't bother with Mr Two Bears at all
gsexr
Rub on watered down vinegar should help with the itching.....makes you want some chips though
twobears
I think I'll end up as Billy No Mates if I adopt all your suggestions and cover myself in a potent mix of saliva, marmite, onion and vinegar
Mrs Buster
Simple prevention - I use baby oil before i venture outside - I dont know if it's coz the little feckers slide off and cant get a grip but I hardly get bitten now Edited July 26, 2013 by Mrs Buster
Stutopia
As used by Ray Mears, US navy seals and most importantly, me in the Amazon. Everything tries to eat you, everything hates it. http://www.raymears.com/Bushcraft_Product/314-3M-Ultrathon-Insect-Repellent-60ml-Lotion/
twobears
Thanks SuperStu, the Amazon eh? I am shopping on Amazon for a book later today so will make sure to dab some of Ray Mears' preferred insect repellent behind both ears before logging on Seriously, if the Smidge doesn't work I will order some Ultrathon One further question, why does Ray Mears look so chubby if he lives off insects and bits of bark? Surely he should be really thin? He must take Mars bars or something for snacks between meals?
Stutopia
I think he just really loves his bug treats.
elfman
I've heard if you take a good course of antihistamines before the season the insects don't bite as they don't like them. Works for my dad anyway haha!
ddcboyle
Vinegar is supposedly pretty good (so the gf keeps saying)
scubapics
Cut your legs off. Itching stops immediately and the second positive is that you won't be bitten there ever again! FTW!
Vik54
I always swore by this http://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/alfresco-natural-insect-repellent-moisturiser.html?gclid=CIe2gcrZ0LgCFcfJtAodOVoANQ or you can always resort to good old 4711 cologne
twobears
Does that one smell quite nice Vik? The one I bought recently smells like burning rubber so I don't want to use it because it gives me a headache after a few minutes
Vik54
well I liked it - it was unusual - very herby - the body lotion was nicer than the spray
