Sarnie
I know you probably all wish i'd sod off with this by now but one final point. The insurance will need proof of a Cat 1 alarm. The car has one (as confirmed by Jurgen right at the start) but how do I prove it to the insurance? vin number should prove it as the cat 1 alarm will be standard so vin identifies version which will show this i think. And no dont wish you sod of this thread probably has helped alot of people out who want to insure jap imports But i thought alarms were optional in japan???? Meaning that the VIN number alone will not prove that there is a CAT 1 alarm and a certificate would be needed?
Zedrush
I think Vin number will show if this car was intended an alarm instal as they normally do this in batches could be wrong though
AndyC
Is the CAT 1 standard on JDM? If it isn't, there will be a separate book for the alarm Nixy (just like the service book for the car) which should be stamped up as having an annual service. Which has just given me a thought (I'll stick up in a separate thread so I'm not crashing yours!)
nixy
I've emailed Jurgen to ask him. If it has a certificate it will be in japanese - oh here we go again.................. To top it off I am 'borrowing' but you could call it have seized - my 19 year old son's Chavved up Astra - R reg, lowered, de-badged grille, badly painted calipers and drums, plastic 8 ball stuck on the aerial, stickers all over it that say cool things like Piper Cross etc. Oh and huge loud exhaust. The shame of it - I'm so embarassed.
Lincolnbaggie
You can say that again! Just done another quote from a place recommended on a local jap car forum. Keith Michaels plc - a guy called Christian. He flew through the quote like an express train. Said he could do it for 620 with a 300 excess and £60 screen excess. That's £90 more than RAC but they would have charged me £100 to do it in installments whereas he will let me do it in 4 installments for no charge. And he'll do me a cover note to say it's on my private plate and the vin number. Shall I just go for it? Nixy, a mate of mine has his Evo insured through a guy called Christian and it might be the same bloke; he knows his cars and I've had a quote from him for my 350. He seems a genuine guy and isn't worried about mods such as SS exhausts, coilovers etc so no premium increase if you add a few bits. Not the cheapest (DirectLine was in my case) but my mate says he's spot on when it comes to helping you out (as long as it's the same company which I can't guarantee and my mate seems to be out at the moment so I can't check and maybe I should just shut up......... )

nixy
yep it was Christian that dealt with it. Got to phone him back today to finalise everything but I'm all sorted. Jurgen provides Cat 1 alarm as part of his package so he will give me the certificate - although I'm sure he told me it already had one so not sure what would happen in that case but he will sort it out. It's getting SVA on June 1st. Jurgen's spoken to them and they said it's very nice - he hasn't seen it yet either. I'm starting to get excited again now. holtehero
One question, on the Keith Michaels site there are various departments, does Cristian work solely on the Japanese bit or performance cars in general.

nixy
One question, on the Keith Michaels site there are various departments, does Cristian work solely on the Japanese bit or performance cars in general. Christian was recommend to me from someone on another Jap site who has used him before. I believe he specialises in the jap side of things. He knew his stuff about Alarms, vin numbers, importing etc. I phoned the normal office number and they asked if I had been recommended a particular advisor so I just said it was him I wanted to speak to. They are a broker and put me with Highway insurance. Don't know if I would have got it cheaper direct but it saved me any hassle over insuring on the Vin etc because he's sorted all that out for me. He did seem fairly flexible on a few things.
