fellsteruk
Hi all, In my quest to try and add a carputer or something in the cubby to make use of it i have found the following possible part solutions, Keen to get your opinion on the following of which i am planning to complete one however at this stage i am not sure which would be best and also if they would all work on my 54 Plate Z which currently has the "lift up and stick out cubby lid", i really like the idea of option one but suspect it would need to replace most of the center dash Option 1 I would like to install the following and add a small tablet or something in the remaining space however it doesn't seems to fit a 54 plate, does anyone know if you can get these for a 54z? I did have a look around and it appears the nav unit for these earlier cars still has the cubby lid http://www.conceptzperformance.com/cart/description.php?II=10968&Car_Type=NIS350&UID=2013070214431392.26.187.213 Option 2 Keep the center facial I have and replace cubby with a retractable one, then use the space for a small portable GPS. If i got this do i need to get anything else as it appears to be missing the back part of the cubby? http://www.conceptzperformance.com/cart/description.php?II=2419&Car_Type=NIS350&UID=2013070214431392.26.187.213 Option 3 Buy the nav kit on ebay, dont really want to do this, mainly because i had the old style nav in my old qashqai and its crap, not a patch on the connect system or something like tomtom or garmin http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/nissan-350z-sat-nav-system-from-a-2006-uk-car-gduk-spares-/161036694295?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item257e88f317 On reflection i think option two may be the only viable option but really keen to try and make option 1 happen, all advice appreciated. Thanks Stephen
spursmaddave
They have the pre-facelift ones on conceptz, just research and get the right one. Be aware that colours might vary too between the cubby part and the rest of the fascia. This was mine
fellsteruk
Yeah i was checking them out but i couldn't find the full navigation facia for the pre-facelift model, the one that doesn't have a cubby lid. Think i would have to change the whole center console which would set me back about £900, not sure i want to spend that much.. lol Is yours the manual or motor version cubby lid? I would like the motorised version but not sure if it will fit in the pre-facelift model, also i am guess there isn't any wiring for the motor on the pre-facelift, i guess you would just wire it into the power from the head unit? Also "sorry for the 1000's questions" Zfever has taken me over... What GPS unit do you have mounted in your cubby Thanks
Stutopia
I'm tempted to rip my scratched lid off and just have a nicely lined, decent sized hole in the console. All sorts can go in then!
spursmaddave
Mine was a motorised one but it is a PITA to wite up, I did manage it but to be hobest it wasn't worth it really... The one you want is an early jap nav cubby with retractable lid like the one I just sold here - http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/72294-flip-cubby-for-satnavtablet/#entry1078279
fellsteruk
ok cool will keep my eye out for one of them but i suspect i wil order one from concept z as i get inpatient So does the one without the motor open like the normal one "spring loaded" or do you have to lift it manually and then push it in manually then vs versa to close. spursmaddave
The motorised one doesn't have a spring no, you have to wire the motor in and put a switch somewhere, a + / off / - one, or just remove the motor and open it manually. I just had mine open, never saw the point of closing it even after all the wiring in to make it work

fellsteruk
lol, i guess you have a point, I never open mine because it sticks out, lets hope that changes soon What tablet unit did you use on yours?
spursmaddave
I just fitted a 7" satnav, I already had a decent HU so I thought a tablet was a bit ott

fellsteruk
Some further help needed... Been in contact with conceptz about a nav cubby for my 54z, I wasn't sure which finisher I needed so asked them, but they advised that only the navigation controller will cover the gap/hole... I thought the small black plastic finisher would do the job. Are these the two parts I need: http://www.conceptzperformance.com/cart/description.php?II=4190&Car_Type=NIS350&UID=2013070814042487.112.174.20 http://www.conceptzperformance.com/cart/description.php?II=4234&Car_Type=NIS350&UID=2013070814042487.112.174.20 Thanks
spursmaddave
Yep thats the right one, you also need the smaller rubber bit to cover the holes it is only about $8 more, when I am on the PC i will find it, it is on the conceptz site
fellsteruk
Cool thanks, I want to get a shipping cost for everything I need to save me making two orders also want Tom start the project as soon as I get my bits. Was going to wait till I had everything but my reverse camera came today so gonna do that and then the new cubby in a few weeks/months. spursmaddave
I would go for this one personally, it does not have a motor, the one you linked to is motorised and there will be no oem plugs in your zed so you will have to manually wire it to a power source and switches etc a real pita http://www.conceptzperformance.com/cart/description.php?II=2778&Car_Type=NIS350&UID=2013070814042487.112.174.20 That one is the whole kit for a retractable one, no power needed
fellsteruk
Thanks but is this the same as yours because I also want to stick a tablet in the back of the cubby so don't think I will need the little basket that goes in the back of the cubby.
spursmaddave
No the basket is an extra bit optional otherwise identical size just your linked one has a motor so either power or take motor out and manual. The one i linked has a coiled up bit of metal that pulls it open if that makes sense...
spursmaddave
I have a knackered manual one in my garage somewhere I think I can dig it out tomorrow.... Might be fixable, you could have it for postage cost if I can find it.... Edited July 8, 2013 by spursmaddave
fellsteruk
Yeah I think that makes sense. Not too bothered about having one with a motor, gonna have enough trouble wiring up a tablet never mind another power source for the cubby motor. If you don't mind... That's a very kind offer
