Hi People...

I'm going on a road trip across the USA in 2 weeks, from Seattle to LA.

Was wondering if any of you guys know 350z after markey companies en route from seattle to LA. Would like to have a look at the kits, after market bits etc...

Cheers

Hi mate, thats one of the things I fancy doing this year as got no major plans for summer hols.

How much have you looked into it etc, whats the route and distances involved...... guess was wondering whether doable etc without being knackered. I want to do it but stop in few places along way and enjoy some of the places.

What are you hiring to drive in? Would have to be a big convertible!

PM me if you want with further details?

I did a road trip with my family back in 2001 (new year)

we started in LA, 29 palms, vegas, grand canyon, taos, new orleans. it was the best holiday i have ever had and you see some amazing things. The most amazing was a rusted out old 62 vette. i wanted to take it home but i wasnt allowed.

We also stumbled across a military base in Nevada by accident, we were escorted back up the road to the Freeway and told not to go down that road again, whoops!

How would it work buying car stuff and getting it back, surly you will have to package it all up properly and take it in the hold with you?

In 2005, me and the gf did LA to Vegas in an Audi S4 convertible, then New Orleans to NYC (going straight across the Gulf of Mexico till we hit the Atlantic in Florida, then straight up the east coast to New York) in a convertible Mustang. Brilliant adventure. Over 2000 miles. Would like to do one across the northern states next time, for some quality hillbilly action!

Now that is something I would love to do. I would also love to hear more stories from the guys that have already done it.

I'll definitely do this one day, maybe when the kids clear off cos they would only spoil it - are we nearly there yet ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Guys,

It looks like I'm going to be doing a similar thing later in the year!

I've tried searching, but does someone have any hire company contacts in the states (west coast).

Want to hire something cool for cruising down the highways, maybe a mustang convertible etc..... depends what we can get. Needs to be big engines, quick, have aircon and something to have a laugh in!

I'm sure someone posted a site ages ago..... but can't find it!

I did it in 2005. Round trip in a convertible Mustang.

Boston, Chicago, Sioux Falls, Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Vegas, Flagstaff, Amarillo, Oklahoma, Springfield :), St Louis, Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Boston.

10,000 miles.

Ready to do it again.

The car was brand new. Only had delivery miles on it. Drove the @*!# out of it.

Sorry about the quality of the map. Had to draw it myself as I’ve found no online service that can plot a route of that distance.

Guy - Fookin' hell, that's epic!! :scare: I thought my trans-am trip was big, but at only 2000 miles it's not in the same league!! How long did that take you?? Did you have to get the car serviced a couple of times during the trip?

Jacko - West Coast I hired from Hertz at LAX. Pretty reasonable (as is everything in the US). They had convertible and coupe mustangs for hire but we opted for the convertible S4 on the LA-Vegas leg and the convertible 'stang for the big leg.

Went for a month but stayed in some places for a few days. You know what its like. Relatives you have to visit, Vegas to play poker, West coast to get surfing lessons.

Crossed the north in 5 days but still got to see most of the places we'd planned. Niagra falls, field of dreams (as in the baseball field from the movie), Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Old Faithful and of course Montana. Intentionally drove from Yellow Stone park through Montana and Idaho to Seattle in about 12hrs. Car was limited to 115mph. With a bit of throttle control we could maintain about 113/114 so as not to trip the limiter. Montana does have speed limits now but after driving 2000miles or so from Boston I didn't really care as we could spot the cops a mile away (And had Valentine One detector which we were given when we got off the plane).

10,000 miles and not one speeding ticket. We got one parking ticket in Chicago for parking on a street that was due for cleaning on a Tuesday morning. Argued with the warden that we were from Ireland and had never come across a situation like this before. She told us to write to somebody (cant remember who). So that person got a lovely postcard explaining the situation and what we'd been told to do with a picture of Niagra Falls on the front.

Mustang was from Hertz and cost between $1000 and $1200 for four weeks I think. Fuel was so cheap compared to this part of the world. Yanks complained about it where ever we went. Some days we filled the tank 3 times but didn’t care as it was really that cheap.

You need at least two people to go. Splitting the cost of the car, fuel, food and accommodation 50 50. This works out great because the yanks charge for the room whereas over here you are charged per person. Cheapest place we stayed was camping in a state park just off the beach in Santa Cruz on the west coast.

I’d do it again tomorrow if I could get my life in order. And the cash. Have been thinking about doing it again a lot lately except this time in a Z.
