garygttdi
I guess this has been asked a 100 times already, but a bit gutted today as my pride and joy has just failed its first MOT under my ownership. It failed on emissions, fast idle CO2 0.63% 2 fast idle 0.46%,idle 0.43% tester says it’s the high flow cat failing. It’s a 54 plate Abbey tuned 350GT with 31K miles. I think the exhaust system is a fabricated one it’s been de-cat at some point with a central high flow sports cat fitted. All other readings passed fine. Do I change cat and if so who and what as not got a clue what to get ? Do I put it through a Terraclean and see if this cleans the cat back up, although this will cost £100.00 alone with no guarantee it will work. Really do not want to change the whole system. HELP !! Dblock
Get the car hot. Rag the crap out of it. Clear it out and get the cats HOT. Then get a reading.
spursmaddave
^ +1 First check the MOT testing place realise that a Zed has to get hot to pass any emissions test pretty much, not just left to idle but properly warmed up
Ekona
Also worth running a can of 10K Boost through the system, it's only about a tenner and you'd be amazed at the crap it will clean out

I never had a problem with MOTs when I ran that but as above it must be hot. Could be worth giving abbey a call to discuss the car, maybe even booking it in for an MOT there if you're close. I think XYZ pipe as we'll. I have stock cats and I still rag the ass off it before the mot.

Also didn't realise the spray was £20 now! Definitely the spray, it's fantastic stuff.

Ekona
Heh, you would hope so! When you use the spray, it will feel like the engine is going to stall but just give it a bit more throttle to keep the revs about 2k and it'll be fine. Oh, and make sure there's no-one behind the car wearing anything white...
rtbiscuit
not used 10k ive always used bg44k, sounds like similar stuff.
370Ad
Where are you based?! You could 'borrow' some stock cats for the MOT.
Vik54
Really pisses me off when this happens - I now ask for a specific appointment / instruct the MOT to happen on any car of mine AS SOON as I have arrived at the garage - they all know fine damn well that a minimal fail on emmisions is avoidable it is just money making GRRRR ... rant over. CrustyCrab
Take it to Abbey! I was having problems but they sorted me right out and got it through no trouble

Its only money making if you take longer than 2 weeks to come back, and if your in that time frame they just check the fail parts not the whole test. cs2000
Some things now don't qualify for a free retest. Off top of my head, emissions and light bulbs are 2 things that don't.
garygttdi
Thanks guys as per normal you lot are bloody brilliant, I had feeling the car needed to be hot. For those that mentioned it I am down in the SW, Exeter so running it up to Mark at Abbey is not really on. Ordered some of the stuff you guys linked me to so going to try that and blast it down to Plymouth and Get The Engine Tuner to give it an MOT. I needed a person to fit some new belts anyway. Think this will be cheaper than changing the cat and finding a pipe fabricator to make it fit. Once again thanks guys I will keep you posted as to how I get on, so other`s can avoid the trap I fell into.

Aye presuming that they've not subsequently tapped you up to do the work to get the car through the mot

Personally I would use BG44k for the Fuel Additive, and 10K Boost spray through the air intake aswell, i use this now on all cars I have, it really does make a difference to performance and MPG.
