ddcboyle
I bought a 1.8 tdci focus when I was 18. 2,6k for insurance. Worst decision ever. Didnt want to get a cheapy run around with low insurance because my "pride" would be affected. Sold var after 2 years for 4k. Bought for 7,5. I lost 3,5k and wasted loads on insurance. I was a young driver so had the occasional knocks and wheel scuffs. I wish I bought a cheaper car to buy and insure, and ccoul have kept the extra money in aavings to pay for moda on my zed. Just a thought. At 18, u will have some knocks and sscufs on ur zed if u havent been driving long.
Tomb
I'm only recently 22 and with 5yrs no claims, and a clean licence it's the first time insuring a zed has become feasible. Build up your no claims, drive sensible for a couple more years then start looking again as the insurance is ridiculous until you hit 21/22. Tom. greg tl
I was looking to get a 370z in exchange for my 59 reg Insignia VXR. That's a V6 2.8 Turbo so I didn't think the 350z or 370z would be much more. The company I am currently insured with won't quote me for both The best quote I got was £4500. You can get a decent 350z for £7000 so there's no point in paying over half that in insurance. Is anybody else on here my age and been able to get reasonable insurance? Sorry to be another young guy complaining about insurance Thanks Try Admrial... We sell a lot of zeds and youngsters are finding them to be the best price around... Give them a go. With your age, they might be keen to put you in a UK car. (not that this makes 1 bit of difference to the car, but thats insurance companies). Greg. cmr1991
Jesus christ, 350z/370z, Insignia VXR's at 18, you having a laugh! I had a bloody 1.3 Escort at 18! As for a porsche at 21, where the hell do you guys get this kind of money?!?! Is this a case of rich parent syndrome or are you a young superstar internet mogul? Very hard work! Bobbyheinz
Hi mate, I was 19 with 0 no claims bonus and only driving 2 years and I got mine for 2k from Admiral, that was with my girlfriend's sister as an additional driver Edited June 25, 2013 by Bobbyheinz
Mike
I am amazed that you're able to get quotes that are even under 5k in all honesty. Irrespective of your driving ability, statistically young drivers are the most likely to be involved in accidents - and that is when most of them are driving pretty "weak" cars. Stick the younger drivers in powerful cars (RWD especially) and ... there's a reason why the quotes are immense. I would simply recommend building up some no claims on a weaker car and work your way up. If you get insurance on the upper limit of affordability, any minor issue (speeding ticket?) would probably mean uninsurable next time round (on that car). There's plenty of "sporty" cars which you may be able to insure easier than the 350z. But just my opinion. I know at that age I'd have died to get that type of car... and then probably actually died while driving it.
JackLandels
I'm 20 currently, all quotes are 4-5k+ no idea how you're getting lower than me, but I'm 21 in a few months, get my 1 years no claims etc, I'm waiting until I'm 21 to get insured. Make sure you're not looking at Fairlady Zs and not declaring them as jap import as the price is completely different.
Neilp
I was 21 when i bought the zed, a crash 1 month before @ 8k cost. My insurance was only 1300 quid with zero no claims bonus. The crash was in a mini cooper s jcw, mods declared runnin 230bhp. I was only 18 when I bought the car and was only 1200 to insure. The crash was the only thing that made me buy a zed as I was originally buying a ferrari 360 and insurance was 1800 until I crashed which made the premium go up by a grand which I wasnt prepared to pay. So i bought the missus a new suzuki swift sport and bought myself a zed and insured both for around 1800 quid and now its well below the grand mark for both at the age of 25. Jcw stuff has a massive premium, especially the wheels brakes seats and body kit let alone the tuning pack which got ripped out and altered after a few months lol. The Ferrari was in reach at about 40k for an older model. Couldn't afford a new one though. Wasn't thinking about repair costs at the time either. Thought I'd be cool as **** at 21 driving a Ferrari lol

Ebized
We have had a 17 year old driving a GT4, but that was as a named driver - it was his mother's car and she was with him. And very capable he was too when he came along on one of our organized drives. But there was no way he could get insurance in his own right. Mike_89
I have just recently bought a 350Z. My old car was a Hyundai Coupe 2.0 which I had insurance for £880.00 for third party fire and theft. I then went out a bought the zed with one month remaining on my old policy and they wanted £2100 for the remainder. So I switched my policy over to only young drivers which are charging me £1100 for the full year and fully comp. I found that looking at the coupe imports the insurance was cheaper than that of UK specs, but the price I pay is for a cabriolet which again I have found to be more expensive again. Av8er
I'm 20 mate, nearly killed myself in a typr r last year after rolling into a tree. As many have said - at 18, nobody will touch you, there's no relevant experience on RWD performance cars which means the specialist won't touch you. cfoster
Blimey long gone are the days of cheap insurance, I was fortunate enough to buy an Escort Cosworth when I was 18, stg3, 350hp, insurance with mods declated was £950 fully comp with my 6 points!! Sold it for an Evo and I got some money back!!! Madness, was 14 years back!! Now pay £320 fully comp on my 370z roadster! I found that limited mileage policies worked the best for me, tell em 5000 miles or so a year and so long as you dont use it as a daily I imagine you won't hit that. cfoster
Yeah they were never cheap and they still aren't! I think I paid £16k for mine and sold it a bit later after 6 months of hard driving (and oddly enough reliable driving!!) for £18k!!
saiper
Are those of you who are insuring high performance cars below the age of 25, putting additional drivers onto their insurance in order to lower the premium? Only reason I ask is because at 22, I tried to insure myself on a TVR Chimaera and the only way I could get insurance below 5k was by adding my 50 year old dad as a driver. I also remember trying to get a quote for a Renault 5 Gordini turbo at 17 and being laughed off the phone by the rep, but that's a different story.
