longsh07
Hi Guys, Trying to decide on a body kit for my 350z and I really like the V2 and V3 Nismo front bumpers but Im concerned about the headlamp washers. Ive done some research and some are saying you can cut holes for them while others say because of the different shape the washers wont stick out enough and so they should just be removed/disabled. If they we're removed/disabled, would this not be an MOT failure? Hope someone can shed some light, maybe provide some pics of V2/V3 with washers cut out or let me know if they have had any issues at MOT time. Cheers. KyleR
Looking to get a V2 myself and was considering asking the same question. I've heard it's been done but I've never seen it.

longsh07
Ah so the washer jet is actually attached to the bumper rather than anything behind it. So in theory they should fit fine to any bumper with a flat surface for them to mount on. Quoted for reference: The head light washer positions were next. (time and care Required here. Mearsure twice cut once) I found that the washer apetures bottom edge ran parrallel with the top edge of the reflector which made the positioning a lot easier. A square was used to transfere the veritcal line which was in may case was 30mm from the corner of the reflector. The bottom edge of the washer apeture was 50mm up from the top edge of the reflector (see Picture) (These measurements are individual to this bumper and may vary to others but it's a good starting point). A simple cardboard template was scribed from the original bumper and used to trace the outline for the new jet location. A 10mm drill bit was used to remove material in the corneers of the opening and a jig saw with a fine toothed blade to cut out the remaining material. It is best to air on the small side when cutting out and remove any excess material to get the perfect fit. (You can always remaove material but cant put it back). Pcictures 3, 4 &5 show the washer jet in position. It's worth noting that the bumper needs to be a specific thickness to allow the washer jet retaining clips to hold it in place. I needed to grind away excess material for this to happen. The washer jet housing bracket has been integrated into the bumper so a 6mm driil bit was used drill out the locating holes and bracket fitted. The next 4 pictures just show the washer jets in place. KyleR
That's a V1 bumper, different shape to the V2 and V3...
longsh07
it still should be possible to fit the jets to the V2 and V3 if there is a suitable surface to mount them on and still have the washer covers flush with the body
KyleR
Hope you're right, but I think I heard the washers don't reach due to the size of the V2, it sticks out further than the OEM or V1
longsh07
Me too, to be honest as long as they would pass an MOT I'm not fussed if they work properly lol. I never let my car get dirty enough to need them.
KyleR
Exactly mate, think I'd still like them if I could keep them though.
longsh07
Just something interesting while researching: Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted. Keyword, MAY. So surely that means if they are fitted they have to work, but if they are not fitted then there is no issue? R-Face
Thats correct, I did a lot of research on this when I bought a V2 (still havent fitted it! ) If you have no washer jets it will pass. if you have them and they fail, its a fail.
smudgedon
Bit like a rear wiper and other bits on an MOT If it's there, it's gotta work If it's not there, don't worry about it Will ask my mate who's an MOT tester and see what he says
smudgedon
He confirms that if they're not there, then they can't be tested and will therefore pass
longsh07
Cheers Smudge! So now the big question is V2 or V3 lol

longsh07
Just thought, its probably worth removing the switch and replacing it with a blanking plate. Anyone know if the car will throw a wobbly (dash light)? Cant imagine it would...
longsh07
You go V3, I'm going V2 Deal
KyleR
The V3 is awesome, one on eBay ATM but you really need the front diffuser to complete the look which isn't cheap and I've not seen replicas.
