BulletMagnet
I started my bonnet refresh take two today, which has been mostly spent rubbing wet and dry 1200 grit all over the bonnet Four coats of lacquer....so far Right, that's five coats done And that's me out of lacquer too, used up two 500ml spray cans (which don't even rattle anymore). Now I have to wait at least 24 hours for it to dry and then another two weeks before I can use any rubbing compound to smooth the finish to a shine. I will be careful with the compound tho, but that's also why I put many coats on

BulletMagnet
This is after a few hours since last coat went on Overall it still has a matt texture but with a flash at the right angle it looks good. Compare this to the first picture in the thread, you'll see that there were a bunch of patches on this side. Already looking forward to buffing up with Megs Ultimate Compound (2 weeks is gonna be looooong wait)

Wasso
Looking That weave is a bit naughty on that edge. Who's it made by?
BulletMagnet
Made by Varis, so rather suprising as ordinarily they turn out top quality items Edited June 15, 2013 by BulletMagnet
Wasso
Made by Varis, so rather suprising as ordinarily they turn out top quality items It's not like that the other side though is it? Looks like they just passed it through their quality control. I guess you can't see it as much when on the car, but being face on it sticks out a little. Mind you, once I hit it with compound, the shine will hopefully detract from it
BulletMagnet
And it is back on the car Still needs the compound stage, but I was thinking a bit of engine heat could help the curing process

Wasso
You've done a good job there mark, would have cost a fair few pounds to get that sorted I'm sure. Win situation
BulletMagnet
This is where I am at after today. Spent some time on with a DA, but think I need to do more to bring out the shine in some areas. I did do another pass with 2000 grit wet & dry before the DA, but still not full shine (I dunno, perhaps I am being too careful ). All in all I pretty pleased though, cos all it cost me in materials was less than £20 (Pack of 1200 grit, pack of 2000 grit, two 500ml spray cans of acrylic lacquer)

BulletMagnet
Attacked it again with 1000 grit today. After weeks and the lacquer fully drying, it turns out i didn't flatten the imperfections enough, so the patches in the very first pic reappeared. So today i took the bonnet off again to do it over again. I have since learnt that my first time sanding was incorrect by using hand only, so this time I am using a block to help and keeping a good eye on flattening every thing down this time round. Sanding continues tomorrow
