Stevebetts
I am looking at a new head unit. Narrowed it down to the following two. Any advice from any owners / experts please as to which is the better unit. Pioneer AVH X2500BT JVC AW-61BTE Comparable on price and features. Cheers
spursmaddave
Both Pioneer or JVC will be a substantial atep up from OEM, just go for the one that ticks the right boxes. If it makes the slightest difference, most Pioneers require boosting with the standard Bose setup, JVCs normally have built in boosters but check that out it's just from my personal experience as I had a Pioneer f900bt that needed boosting and then a JVC 8400 that didn't
MartynB85
Not much help but I've got the AVH X5500BT, cracking head unit. That one has high voltage pre outs too.

Stevebetts
Just fitted my new HU. Anyone that has fitted a pioneer unit - which RCA plugs went where into the HU? I put white/red into fronts and yellow/black into rears (when connected to sub it didn't seem to power rear speakers). Can someone confirm this is correct please? Also, the facia is crap. The original radio has three recesses at the bottom to take three pins from the gear lever surround to allow it all to click together. The new facia does not! I've emailed the seller to get his comments.
Stevebetts
Found out why facia doesn't fit. It's the wrong one. It is for the ore face lift. Ordered the correct one today.
spursmaddave
If the unit only has front x2 and rear x 2 rcas then you have it correct, you can splice the sub into either of the rears no problem. Some units have s seperate sub rca some don't. What the volume like? Do you need to boost it?

The wiring adaptor only has a white and red RCA for front speakers and yellow and red RCAs which I have plugged into the rears on the unit. There appears to be something coming from the sub, so I assume the Bose unit takes care of sending the signal? The volume is not very good to be honest. I need to look into the cost of a booster and how to fit.
Stevebetts
Edit on last post. The other RCAs are one yellow and one black (not red)

spursmaddave
At least there is on mine and I dont remember fixing one on
Stevebetts
Really? There was nothing I could see. The adaptor kit only comes with the 2sets of leads.
Stevebetts
As i have to remove the HU again shortly to fit the correct facia, I plan to to a line booster in to get some volume back. From what ive read on here, I only boost the front speakers? Im still not 100% sure on the RCA connections either. The red/white from the ICT cable is obviously front speakers. We then only have the yellow/black RCAs from the ICT. Currently they are pluged into the rear speaker output on the HU. This leaves the SW output on the HU with nothing connected. Should i get an RCA splitter and split the yellow/black and plug into the rear speaker outputs and the SW outputs on the HU?
Stevebetts
Just took the HU out and altered the harness as per Busters thread! What a difference! Typically, I had already ordered the line booster etc before I found this fix.

spursmaddave
I assume you didn't do Busters fix then Dave? No I bypassed that issue with an amp

spursmaddave
Ah......I see! A slightly more costly option but worth it especially if you replace the paper 'Bose' speakers....
Stevebetts
Did you change the sub too?
spursmaddave
Did you change the sub too? Yes although I like to be unconventional so I went for a flat twin sub in the boot
Stevebetts
If anyone wants to buy the line booster from me, let me know or i will return it to the seller.
Stevebetts
Facia arrived yesterday. All fitted now and looks and sounds great. the only disappointment with the Pioneer systems (appradio systems) is the need to spend an additional £110 on cables to connect fully to the iPhone 5. Without these cables you can not use the phone apps on the HU. Bit of a rip off! Should be built into the system. I will not be buying them as it looks very untidy too.
