Patch
Need to hook up my alpine amp to the std bose head unit to power my under strut sub/ Not got a clue how to do it Help
un1eash
Either use high level inputs on the amp if it has them or use a high to low level adaptor.
BulletMagnet
Personally I would probably tap into the speaker wires and run the alpine amp in bridged mode (if it has it) with low pass mode enabled (again if it has it)
BulletMagnet
Then again, it's been a while since I have seen the back of the OEM Bose HU. Does it have RCA outputs? If so, then just run Y-splitters off them and hook it up to the Alpine amp (with bridged mode and low pass on)
un1eash
Brideged mode? Low pass mode? No RCA's also. If you tap into the rear speakers and use the high level inputs then on the amp you will need to set the crossover filter for sub frequencies. Depends on the amp but there should be a off/low/high filter switch along with a gain and freq dial .
BulletMagnet
^^ Which is low pass mode Bridged meaning take say "-" from right channel and "+" from left and sending it to one singular speaker creating a mono mode
un1eash
ps. If using high level inputs I think you need to take the feed from the headunit and not at the speaker if using bose as the bose amp has its own filters and would of already filtered out the bass by the time the signal gets to the rear speakers. Patch
would this work? http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/cel-ais2260-iso-nissan-350z-with-bose-audio-system-to-rca.html the amp is a mono amp

And you are looking to retain the OEM HU

And you are looking to retain the OEM HU for now yes, I just want to swap the std subwoofer out.
Patch
The amp is an Alpine V12 MRD-M605 mono amp if that helps?
BulletMagnet
Found this pic of somebody in the US who upgraded their system and retained the Bose HU It mentions an item called a AudioLink PD-4. Dunno if this is helpful, but if you intend to upgrade the HU to an aftermarket one in the future, then personally I would wait until then and upgrade the whole system, speakers and amps included, start from a clean sheet so to speak
un1eash
There's similar products called audio control lc2i and lc6i but these start at over £100, its alot to spend if you plan on upgrading the head unit later.
un1eash
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/celsus-lc2-adjustable-converter.html I've used these a couple times with decent results.
Patch
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/celsus-lc2-adjustable-converter.html I've used these a couple times with decent results. would that work if I tapped into the speaker wire going to the std subwoofer? before the bose, amp? could I also pick up the remote from this location too? un1eash
I would tap into the wires as they come out the back of the head unit. I'm not sure what the Bose amp in the boot does but this sends a signal to the sub amp, could be filtered, not sure.
Patch
ok cheers, for £15 its gotta be worth a punt.
spursmaddave
Why would you want to amp the speakers but not change the HU sorry just doesn't make sense to me at all.....
Patch
I don't like how aftermarket head units look, but want more bass than the crappy bose subwoofer delivers. simple really.
spursmaddave
I don't like how aftermarket head units look, but want more bass than the crappy bose subwoofer delivers. simple really. Fair enough, but you honestly prefer a tape deck to a new HU
BulletMagnet
Patch, after reading through the thread again, if you really have no clue how to do this, then I would personally go to a car audio specialist and tell them to do it. Especially when power cables are involved, since you will have to run a fused 0 gauge to the mono amp for your aftermarket sub. Don't wanna risk a fire
Patch
I'm not worried about running the power/earth lines, just needed a little guidance on how best to tap into the bose hu.
BulletMagnet
Ah, ok then Well, if it was myself, then yeah, the link to that speaker wire to RCA box thing looks like a good start. Since you are hooking up to a mono amp, then I would tap a positive from the right channel and a negative from the left channel, or vice versa to retain a mono quality to the sound was some songs do like a sweep from channel to channel and you don't want to loose the constant bass like it would happen if you only tapped into one speaker only. as for the remote amp switch wire, I do think the Bose Amp also uses a blue/white wire for this, but i'd have to double check and then you could tap into that for the signal. Looking at it now, it seems pretty straight forward.

un1eash
I was using one in our Alfa GT with Bose before i upgraded the head unit.
