gareth29
Find i'm doing this all the time unless on a hill - first seems very short and the slightly recalcitrant change into 2nd is avoided. Anyone else do this?
BulletMagnet
I set off in 2nd when the roads are covered in snow and ice...
Ekona
Nope, never. Torque helps if you want to do this, but at the expense of your clutch.
gareth29
I had wondered about the clutch but you dont really have to slip it at all. btw ekona, your road trip looks pretty epic, we were planning to pop over to the continent but i think we'll have a few more non-driving days - like one!? ZMANALEX
Taking off in second will lead to premature clutch and fly wear Gareth. However no drama mate as plenty in stock and good to go same/next day. Alex.
cs2000
Yup as above. Even in snow and ice I won't do it, I simply use clutch and no throttle to get rolling. The zed really seems to hate setting off in 2nd. It's possible yes, but doesn't feel right.
BulletMagnet
Actually, since using winter tyres I haven't set off in 2nd in the snow and ice covered roads. I used when I had my old Bridgestone RE040s on the Rays....

spursmaddave
I too would only pull away in 2nd if it was icy... sure fire way to shag your clutch especially on a Zed
